( june event ) who's that pokemon?

For the residents of Wayward Pines, the 19th is just your typical boring Monday. The sun is shining. The birds are chirping.
Until suddenly, they're not.
That's the first sign. Maybe you don't even notice — you're far too busy with your nine-to-five, or maybe even by poolside, blissfully ignorant to the trouble brewing just out of sight, or to the fact that SPF 15 is basically just water anyway. Or maybe you aren't quite so lucky. You notice the birds have gone silent. You feel the eyes upon you, unseen but still raising goosebumps on the back of your neck.
And then from the woods, that telltale scream.
No, two screams, then three, then five, then more than a dozen. You can't count them, can't figure out which direction they're coming from. It's like they're all around you now. Even above you. Now you spot them on the rooftops — god, they're huge, you can't even fathom how they made it up there unnoticed.
But they're not playing at stealth anymore. One leaps off the roof, a single fluid bound on long thick limbs, and barely lands on the sidewalk for a moment before it lunges at the nearest person — your neighbor mowing his lawn, or maybe the woman carrying that armful of bags out of French's Grocery — long claws slicing through their flesh like a hot knife through butter. Then comes another, and another. Into the streets, the backyards, and the ill-timed pool parties, tearing through every living soul they can find.
By nightfall, the creatures have retreated back into the woods en masse, but anyone foolish enough to wander too far from the safety of their homes runs the risk of being picked off one by one if they're not careful. The 20th and 21st follow a similar pattern; during the day, the Sheriff and a team of volunteers comb through the woods looking for survivors, and during the night, these creatures do much the same.
The morning of the 22nd dawns with the last of the vicious "murder potatoes" (as Linda had hysterically dubbed them on the first day while wielding a butcher's knife with astonishing proficiency) have fallen, and the danger is gone.
For now, anyway. The questions they leave behind, however? Those are here to stay.MOD NOTES

Nyx Ulric | He's all over the place | Open
[He'd been having a good time, surprisingly. Nyx gave himself the day to just....not deal for awhile. His mind had already let go of the Salvatore family, and for once (with some help from Luna and Crowe) he figured he'd stop dwelling on how it felt to forget them.
As the screams rip through the afternoon breeze, however, he regrets that he didn't just stay home where he had his damned gear.
A shriek pierces his ears from the rooftop, echoed by a hundred more in the surrounding streets, and Nyx's mind locks down. It's not unlike the cry of monsters on the battlefield, of daemons crawling out from their hellish plane as night falls, and all at once it's like he never left the war. He jerks to face the nearest creature, leaping down upon the party, and he lifts a hand; doesn't think, only reacts as he's been trained to. Reaches deep inside himself and calls upon the well of power that was only waiting for this moment.
Clear, interlocking hexagons appear in a dome between his hand and the monster, and it crashes against it like a wall; its claws violently scrabble for purchase as it slides down the barrier to the ground. The magic shudders from the impact. Nyx shifts gears, dropping the barrier to call up lightning instead. A violent blue bolt of electricity thunders from his palm into the monster's chest, blowing it back against the house.
It's not dead, he can tell by the way it moves, but it's also not alone. More of them are jumping into the fray, and as he turns to survey the scene he can see that several people have already fallen in just the first handful of seconds. Between the screams he can hear others marshaling the survivors, trying to get people to safety. Wasting no more time Nyx vaults over a table to get to his bag and fishes out his kukri. He has no armor, barely any clothes, a single blade, and an arsenal of magic.
It almost feels like home.]
Armor would have been great right about now... | For Ibaraki
[These bastards are stronger than he expected. While it's still daylight, and they look almost human more than daemonic, he's admittedly having a harder time killing them than he'd like. They're fast, and they work together, and the longer he fights the less effective his lightning is.
Nyx warps across the street, ducking behind the dubious cover of a row of bushes to catch his breath and rethink his strategy. He's doing little more than slowing them down at this point, and in the chaos he's lost track of almost everyone. He has to get home to get his gear before he can start to really help these people. Decided, he moves into the backyard and hops a fence to get into the next block.
He hears it almost too late; a creak of sound, a whisper of air displaced by something large and heavy passing through it, and it's only by virtue of his training that the creature leaps over him when he throws himself to the ground. The delay doesn't slow it down at all. It twists the split second its feet touch the grass and is on him again. He casts a barrier, but the magic is too weak. It shatters on the second hit.
Nyx does his best to dodge claws and teeth, blocking with the blade of his kukri, but his skin is vulnerable and this one knows to avoid his hands. Short of electrocuting or freezing himself, his magic isn't going to help. Swearing, he tosses his kukri into the air, warping up after it in an attempt to stab the creature in the back, but it's too fast. The blade cuts into its shoulder instead of its spine, and suddenly there are claws digging into his side, throwing him to the dirt. Pain bursts like fire, and Nyx throws his arm up to keep teeth from closing around his throat.]
Well that could have gone better | Open to Nyx's House CR
[Nyx stumbles through his front door, saved only by Ibaraki's love of all things violent, and tries to stop himself from shaking. He'd thought he was prepared for something like this to happen. He was wrong. Nyx drips blood as he moves to the kitchen. The claw marks on his side had already soaked the fabric he'd stolen off some other unfortunate victim, but doing little to explain the blood that's staining the rest of him.
He takes a moment to turn on the tap, peering out the kitchen window to see if any of the creatures were nearby. He knows that Ibaraki has likely scared them all off, but he can't help the wariness. Rinsing his hands, Nyx splashes his face and breathes. Tries to ignore the lightheaded feeling encroaching on his senses. Then he grabs a towel to press against his wound with a hiss.
He's not sure if anyone's even home, but he makes his way back through the house to his bedroom anyway. There's a first aid kit in his bathroom, and more importantly: no windows.]
The push to safety | Open
[Once geared up and bandaged, Nyx feels like the soldier he used to be. He's fought monsters way bigger and way deadlier than these things all the time. He might not have been born to it, but battle like this has been his purpose for far too many years.
He heard the call on the network and makes his way towards the hospital, more intent on allowing others the chance to get there than making it there himself. Now that he has his armor he's less wary of getting up close to these things; warps directly onto any creature attacking someone to either take its head off or send it flying with a bolt of electricity.
It's no surprise to learn that they don't like fire, either. Very few things, he's found, actually do, and it explains why they are avoiding Ibaraki like the plague (not that it's seemed to help save their lives). He hasn't cast fire since he woke up in Wayward Pines, but there's nothing like a battle for your life to find out whether doing so will kill you again, is there?]
Hospital/Patrols | Open
[Nyx doesn't sleep after getting to dubious safety. He knows he should. Knows that while he's not on patrol there's little else to do but rest. He should get his wound seen to, at the very least, but Crowe is good with her hands and the bandaging will hold until he settles. He's tired, but it doesn't feel important. Like the adrenaline rush from getting here never quite eased; it's fueled by the sounds still filtering in from outside. The screams of those who didn't make it, and those that took advantage of the town's complacency.
He'd known there was danger, and he should have pressed harder. Maybe then there could have been a way to help stop this from happening.
He doesn't stay in the hospital the whole time. During the next day he goes out to help bring survivors to the hospital and carry supplies to survive what had turned into a frightening siege. At night he sits on the roof, watching Magnus's ring of fire and taking pot shots at anything that decides to get too close.
By the last day he's shaking. The magic use, the injury, and a lack of actual rest building into a cocktail of unpleasantness that tells him crashing is imminent, and that he'd better be somewhere flat if he doesn't want to just fall over.]
the 'that could have gone better' option
Except there are blood steps on the doorstep, and she stares at them for a moment before taking a quick look around to make sure none of the creatures see them, and getting herself and Raven inside.
Once the door is closed and latched, and only then, does she yell. ]
NYX!
scoots in here
and apparently, they aren't the only ones. ❱
Shit, ❰ she mutters, finally ducking out from under crowe's arm to lift her rifle up level as they step into a house just as liable to hold a homicidal beast as it is nyx. the yell has her flinching, eyes darting from the rooms ahead of them back to the window, because that was loud and there's a chance it could draw even more of them.
catching crowe's gaze, she nods up ahead of them, falling back a step herself. ❱ I'll cover you.
no subject
The hallway is empty so far, but depending on how fast she's moving Crowe must have made it to the center room. He stays low, one eye on his windows, and pitches his voice just high enough to carry.]
Crowe.
no subject
Oh no. You're taking a flashlight and going into the spare bathroom to take a shower. Don't take too long, but make it thorough. And then you come out and I assess the damage and get you bandaged up. Think you're up for that?
[ Then she turns towards Nyx's bedroom, head tilted to one side. ]
Raven here rigged an explosion, and the block is temporarily clear. How much of that blood is yours?
[ She knows Nyx's voice. She knows how it strains when in significant pain. It's not quite there, she thinks. Gratefully. ]
no subject
so her lips press together a second, the only outward sign of her kneejerk defiance before she swallows it and lowers her gun with a nod. ❱ Yeah, ❰ is all she says, then she's off to the bathroom to clean herself up.
in retrospect, this is a terrible idea. trying to take a shower in the middle of this mess — because that's just what raven needs, to be naked and wet when those things break in — but she's got the rifle propped against the bathroom counter and between that and how spectacularly quick she plans to make this shower, everything should be fine. ❱

What he should have known was that Crowe would have gone looking for her. The memories this place gives are strong enough to influence their actions, especially in a situation like this. Astrals know that the moment he's clear to do so he's got a few people of his own to find.]
Enough. [His response is a little louder, feeling more secure now that he's not alone. He leans a little heavier against the wall to stand up straight again, closing his eyes against a small surge of dizziness.] Are you two hurt?
no subject
But she totally does smirk at Nyx at the whistle. Her girl.
... before the mirth fades right back out and she steps forward. ]
Raven got banged up in the explosion, but good enough to walk, so shower before taking full stock. I got chewed on a bit, nothing much. [ Ha. ha. ] Let me see. [ Beat. ] You focus on keeping an eye and ear out.
[ Yes, Raven, nobody will sneak up on them. On you, either. ]

Blood was nothing unusual, especially not by this point. But it was extra alarming to finally reach the house and see so much of it just outside. She wonders, of course, if there are any of those creatures inside, but it was more important to see who it was who had come here, and whether or not they were okay. This above all else.
Lunafreya opens the door and looks around quickly, checking for anything that shouldn't be here before she calls out:]
Nyx? Crowe?
no subject
But she's here. She's here, and alive. Nyx leans heavily against the wall and presses his hand to his face to gather himself before calling back.]
Bedroom.
CW: GORE BECAUSE IBARAKI? (also a week and a half late because im a fucking class act like that)
in a whirl of silk and bone, she is on top of the two of them, ripping the monster's body off of her new human's with little precision and even less delicacy. the teeth are pulled from his arm as she whips her new victim into the ground, creating a tiny crater at the impact, and giving her plenty of time to slam her sword six inches deep into the ground — through the creature's own hand. it's an instantaneous reversal of roles, a predator becoming prey, and ibarak is the kind to play with her food, it seems. she stands upon its chest, one foot pushing that hideous face into the dirt, the claws of the other digging into the soft spots between an inhuman ribcage. in one hand she holds the monster's elbow in a crushing grip, the angle of the bone all wrong for any living creature. ]
Human speech is beyond your kind, yes? I must deliver this warning in a language you will understand. Death is a quick lesson, and your kind must learn.
[ she has not removed that tiny, clawed foot from where it is pushing the bigger monster's head into the ground, stained teeth gnashing as the muscular body writhes — the joint strains, refusing to give way the way rotted flesh is so apt to do so, and still she persists on pulling. pulling, and pulling, until the arm is ripped entirely from the monster's torso with a gush of blood flying in an arc, splattering over the side of nyx's house. ]
Do you understand, cretin? To harm what is mine, you insult me. [ ibaraki laughs, high pitched and cruel, at the pain she has caused, and slings the now disembodied arm over her shoulder like a new club she intends to beat the creature with. knowing her, maybe she actually will beat it with its own arm. ] You may not understand, but when I hang your pitiful carcass from the wires, it will serve warning to the others like you. A warning that should they cross me and mine, they shall face the same fate.
[ now she begins to press down with her heel, and the creature's struggles increase, with all the capacity it has to do so now that it's short two limbs, speared through a third by that bone sword which is as long as ibaraki is tall. it screeches, that almost human, agonizing cry, and she bears down harder, harder, murder in her eyes and a cruel grin on her mouth. ] They will have time to run, to hide, until I hunt them each down, one by one. And when I have, I shall feast upon their fear as I do yours, until I have had my fill and decide to raze the pitiful nest you come from to the ground.
[ crunch. ]
You are but the warning.
[ ignoring the fan of red on the ground, the material that seeped between her toes as she crushed what was underfoot, or what will probably become stains in her silk kimono, ibaraki laughs again and yanks her blade free of the body, dropping the torn away arm. it isnt until she's lifted the body to presumably throw it up onto the power lines that she remembers nyx is still there, and still breathing, presumably. oh yeah.
well, she can check on him first, i guess. ]
Oi. Jiji, are you dying?
no subject
In the interest of killing it and getting the fuck inside, Nyx takes a step closer only to recoil from the spray of blood from its arm as she brutally yanks it from its socket. This isn't the first time he's been soaked with blood (his own and that monsters he's killed), but the glaives never tortured their kills. Never stood there and reveled in the gore and pain and terror.
Nyx releases a pained breath and sinks back down to one knee in the stained grass when she finally kills it, trying to rekindle his thoughts. His brain tries to tell him that he's no safer now than he was thirty seconds ago, but he shoves that into a box to deal with later. He knew what kind of person she was; she had made no secret of that fact. If he didn't believe her before he sure as hell does now. There's something distinctly inhuman about her beyond the horns and the claws. And she just saved his life.
He shakes his head to her question, remembering that he is, in fact, bleeding out. Pushing his hand to the wound, using the flash of pain and adrenaline to focus, he tries to stem the bleeding a little.]
I'll be fine, just as soon as I can stitch this.
no subject
Stupid.
[ she leans in to examine the injury, getting a good whiff of the heady, iron scent of human blood -- jiji's is saturated with mana, and were she a bloodsucker, she'd be so much more interested... but she has to take care of him, to keep her own power flowing. ]
You must be more careful, or they will think I do not do my job! Hold still.
[ Mana ripples around her, her hair flickering into flames at the tips as she probes his injury with bloodied and red hands, huffing at the loss of blood but careful to keep her claws from his skin. none of her magic is for healing, but she can make him stronger, at least. put power in his blood until he fixes himself up...
to cast demonkind magic, first she must strengthen herself, feeding on flames and fury, her hair burning brighter as the power swells around them. (it even has the unintended effect of chasing away two more monsters.) power flows from her to nyx as she presses a palm against his heart, unable to reach his face. it's a burning, fire strength, almost like a curse but different. it's a magical manifestation of her power and leadership of her old gang, filling him with energy. finished, ibaraki pulls away and scowls up at nyx, displeased but not at him. ]
After you have stopped the bleeding, we will go make them pay for this, jiji.
