( june event ) who's that pokemon?

EVENT: WHO'S THAT POKEMON?

For the residents of Wayward Pines, the 19th is just your typical boring Monday. The sun is shining. The birds are chirping.

Until suddenly, they're not.

That's the first sign. Maybe you don't even notice — you're far too busy with your nine-to-five, or maybe even by poolside, blissfully ignorant to the trouble brewing just out of sight, or to the fact that SPF 15 is basically just water anyway. Or maybe you aren't quite so lucky. You notice the birds have gone silent. You feel the eyes upon you, unseen but still raising goosebumps on the back of your neck.

And then from the woods, that telltale scream.

No, two screams, then three, then five, then more than a dozen. You can't count them, can't figure out which direction they're coming from. It's like they're all around you now. Even above you. Now you spot them on the rooftops — god, they're huge, you can't even fathom how they made it up there unnoticed.

But they're not playing at stealth anymore. One leaps off the roof, a single fluid bound on long thick limbs, and barely lands on the sidewalk for a moment before it lunges at the nearest person — your neighbor mowing his lawn, or maybe the woman carrying that armful of bags out of French's Grocery — long claws slicing through their flesh like a hot knife through butter. Then comes another, and another. Into the streets, the backyards, and the ill-timed pool parties, tearing through every living soul they can find.

By nightfall, the creatures have retreated back into the woods en masse, but anyone foolish enough to wander too far from the safety of their homes runs the risk of being picked off one by one if they're not careful. The 20th and 21st follow a similar pattern; during the day, the Sheriff and a team of volunteers comb through the woods looking for survivors, and during the night, these creatures do much the same.

The morning of the 22nd dawns with the last of the vicious "murder potatoes" (as Linda had hysterically dubbed them on the first day while wielding a butcher's knife with astonishing proficiency) have fallen, and the danger is gone.

For now, anyway. The questions they leave behind, however? Those are here to stay.

[Nyx stares in vague horror as the creature's teeth are abruptly ripped from his arm before they can even properly sink in. Blood is warm as it washes down his side from the thing's wicked claws. The pain's faded to an afterthought. He rolls to his feet, wincing at the shrill sound that echoes down the street as the creature fails to get away.

In the interest of killing it and getting the fuck inside, Nyx takes a step closer only to recoil from the spray of blood from its arm as she brutally yanks it from its socket. This isn't the first time he's been soaked with blood (his own and that monsters he's killed), but the glaives never tortured their kills. Never stood there and reveled in the gore and pain and terror.

Nyx releases a pained breath and sinks back down to one knee in the stained grass when she finally kills it, trying to rekindle his thoughts. His brain tries to tell him that he's no safer now than he was thirty seconds ago, but he shoves that into a box to deal with later. He knew what kind of person she was; she had made no secret of that fact. If he didn't believe her before he sure as hell does now. There's something distinctly inhuman about her beyond the horns and the claws. And she just saved his life.

He shakes his head to her question, remembering that he is, in fact, bleeding out. Pushing his hand to the wound, using the flash of pain and adrenaline to focus, he tries to stem the bleeding a little.]

I'll be fine, just as soon as I can stitch this.

[ ibaraki frowns, thinking about the fragility of humans, annoyed that nyx doesn't have the mystic code that would normally keep her master safer from physical harm (or, the eggplant servant, but whatever) and lifts the bleeding carcass a little higher for a moment. then, she sighs, and drops it flat on the dirty, bloody ground. she can make her warning later. she needs to pull it's intestines out to use as ropes anyway. ]

Stupid.

[ she leans in to examine the injury, getting a good whiff of the heady, iron scent of human blood -- jiji's is saturated with mana, and were she a bloodsucker, she'd be so much more interested... but she has to take care of him, to keep her own power flowing. ]

You must be more careful, or they will think I do not do my job! Hold still.

[ Mana ripples around her, her hair flickering into flames at the tips as she probes his injury with bloodied and red hands, huffing at the loss of blood but careful to keep her claws from his skin. none of her magic is for healing, but she can make him stronger, at least. put power in his blood until he fixes himself up...

to cast demonkind magic, first she must strengthen herself, feeding on flames and fury, her hair burning brighter as the power swells around them. (it even has the unintended effect of chasing away two more monsters.) power flows from her to nyx as she presses a palm against his heart, unable to reach his face. it's a burning, fire strength, almost like a curse but different. it's a magical manifestation of her power and leadership of her old gang, filling him with energy. finished, ibaraki pulls away and scowls up at nyx, displeased but not at him. ]

After you have stopped the bleeding, we will go make them pay for this, jiji.
