( june event ) who's that pokemon?

EVENT: WHO'S THAT POKEMON?

For the residents of Wayward Pines, the 19th is just your typical boring Monday. The sun is shining. The birds are chirping.

Until suddenly, they're not.

That's the first sign. Maybe you don't even notice — you're far too busy with your nine-to-five, or maybe even by poolside, blissfully ignorant to the trouble brewing just out of sight, or to the fact that SPF 15 is basically just water anyway. Or maybe you aren't quite so lucky. You notice the birds have gone silent. You feel the eyes upon you, unseen but still raising goosebumps on the back of your neck.

And then from the woods, that telltale scream.

No, two screams, then three, then five, then more than a dozen. You can't count them, can't figure out which direction they're coming from. It's like they're all around you now. Even above you. Now you spot them on the rooftops — god, they're huge, you can't even fathom how they made it up there unnoticed.

But they're not playing at stealth anymore. One leaps off the roof, a single fluid bound on long thick limbs, and barely lands on the sidewalk for a moment before it lunges at the nearest person — your neighbor mowing his lawn, or maybe the woman carrying that armful of bags out of French's Grocery — long claws slicing through their flesh like a hot knife through butter. Then comes another, and another. Into the streets, the backyards, and the ill-timed pool parties, tearing through every living soul they can find.

By nightfall, the creatures have retreated back into the woods en masse, but anyone foolish enough to wander too far from the safety of their homes runs the risk of being picked off one by one if they're not careful. The 20th and 21st follow a similar pattern; during the day, the Sheriff and a team of volunteers comb through the woods looking for survivors, and during the night, these creatures do much the same.

The morning of the 22nd dawns with the last of the vicious "murder potatoes" (as Linda had hysterically dubbed them on the first day while wielding a butcher's knife with astonishing proficiency) have fallen, and the danger is gone.

For now, anyway. The questions they leave behind, however? Those are here to stay.

[ The closest shelter which is properly equipped that Crowe knows of? Is Nyx's house. So that's where she's taking Raven, arm around the younger woman's shoulders and the other hand still gripped around the handle of her knife. They're not okay, and Crowe needs to take stock of just how not okay, clean and bandage them, and see if Raven has what it takes to make a flamethrower or two in the garage, so of they limp.

Except there are blood steps on the doorstep, and she stares at them for a moment before taking a quick look around to make sure none of the creatures see them, and getting herself and Raven inside.

Once the door is closed and latched, and only then, does she yell.

NYX!

for her part, raven's actually walking pretty much fine... but she was a little unsteady when she first stood up, and crowe hasn't exactly let her go since then. she's bleeding, but then again, they both are.

and apparently, they aren't the only ones.

Shit, ❰ she mutters, finally ducking out from under crowe's arm to lift her rifle up level as they step into a house just as liable to hold a homicidal beast as it is nyx. the yell has her flinching, eyes darting from the rooms ahead of them back to the window, because that was loud and there's a chance it could draw even more of them.

catching crowe's gaze, she nods up ahead of them, falling back a step herself.
❱ I'll cover you.

[Nyx had gotten himself to the bathroom, trailing bloody footprints the whole way, and was just about to peel away his makeshift bandage when he hears Crowe's shout. He freezes, listening intently, but there's no answering sound of splintering wood or screams. Exhaling slowly, he moves back to his bedroom to peer out the door.

The hallway is empty so far, but depending on how fast she's moving Crowe must have made it to the center room. He stays low, one eye on his windows, and pitches his voice just high enough to carry.]

Crowe.

[ Crowe snorts, quietly, at Raven, breathing a little easier once she's heard Nyx's voice. Her own words are back to quieter again, matching Nyx's. ]

Oh no. You're taking a flashlight and going into the spare bathroom to take a shower. Don't take too long, but make it thorough. And then you come out and I assess the damage and get you bandaged up. Think you're up for that?

[ Then she turns towards Nyx's bedroom, head tilted to one side. ]

Raven here rigged an explosion, and the block is temporarily clear. How much of that blood is yours?

[ She knows Nyx's voice. She knows how it strains when in significant pain. It's not quite there, she thinks. Gratefully. ]

raven typically doesn't take too well to being told what to do and when, but if there's a time to push back, it's not in the middle of a massacre, it's not so soon after she brought a house down on top of her, and it's not with crowe.

so her lips press together a second, the only outward sign of her kneejerk defiance before she swallows it and lowers her gun with a nod.
❱ Yeah, ❰ is all she says, then she's off to the bathroom to clean herself up.

in retrospect, this is a terrible idea. trying to take a shower in the middle of this mess — because that's just what raven needs, to be naked and wet when those things break in — but she's got the rifle propped against the bathroom counter and between that and how spectacularly quick she plans to make this shower, everything should be fine.

[Raven rigged an explosion. Nyx whistles low, little more than an exhale between his lips. He hadn't been close enough to see what had happened, but he'd felt the shake. He didn't know that Raven was capable of pulling that off in the little time there had been since the attack started, not without some kind of magic or technology.

What he should have known was that Crowe would have gone looking for her. The memories this place gives are strong enough to influence their actions, especially in a situation like this. Astrals know that the moment he's clear to do so he's got a few people of his own to find.]

Enough. [His response is a little louder, feeling more secure now that he's not alone. He leans a little heavier against the wall to stand up straight again, closing his eyes against a small surge of dizziness.] Are you two hurt?

[ Crowe will definitely apologize to Raven later for the command, but she'll hopefully feel better for the shower and this will be the fastest way to get her through it. And yes, she will be kept very safe.

But she totally does smirk at Nyx at the whistle. Her girl.

... before the mirth fades right back out and she steps forward.

Raven got banged up in the explosion, but good enough to walk, so shower before taking full stock. I got chewed on a bit, nothing much. [ Ha. ha. ] Let me see. [ Beat. ] You focus on keeping an eye and ear out.

[ Yes, Raven, nobody will sneak up on them. On you, either. ]
