I. Rock Around The Clock
Being that this party is for the opening of a music store, it makes sense that the main feature of the night is a dance floor! Music from throughout the 1950s will be playing, both in the store itself as well as the large loft above that has been converted into a miniature sockhop for everyone in attendence. Records and streamers hang from the ceilings and there is a lot of black, white, and pink to be seen. There's also a small stage in one corner set up for anyone brave enough to pick up one of the guitars that usually adorn the shop downstairs, as well as several microphone stands that are hooked up to a karaoke machine. Come in and dance the night away! Anyone wearing era-appropriate attire will random prizes.
II. All Shook Up
Being that this is a Magnus party, there is a wide range of cocktails to sample being made at the open bar. Most of them are were what was popular at the time—Manhattans, Old Fashioneds, the classic Gin & Tonic—but requests for specialty drinks are being taken as well. There are also, in true 50s style, milkshakes that are creamy enough to tempt even those who would usually try to resist. But there's a twist: they're alcoholic. None will be served to minors, but it's totally possible that the adults won't realized their delicious treats are spiked until after they've had their second (or third) glass. Also, though the upper loft is well-lit for dancing, the first-floor store has plenty of dark corners for making bad decisions. So grab your honey, grab a drink, and enjoy the night together.
III. Tutti Frutti
Half of the upper loft is dedicated to refreshments as well as boasting furniture looks like it was ripped from a diner—you guessed it, chrome with red vinyl upholstery. A table along one wall is ladden with miniature versions of popular diner food— cheeseburgers, hot dogs, even tuna melts—as well as french fries and plenty of other finger food. And, because this is the 1950s, there's jello. Lots of jello. So much jello that it's insane, how can anyone love jello this much? Luckily, if you don't go ape over gelatine-based desserts, there are also record-shaped cookies and non-alcoholic milkshakes for the kiddies. Seeing as this is a small town with families, and thus minors, there are plenty of drink options for those who aren't yet old enough to drink or who prefer not to.
IV. La Bamba
No invite is necessary, IC or OOC, for anyone who'd like to jump in and join the party! It's safe to assume that flyers have been up around town to announce the time and place. Hopefully, with enough people in attendance throughout the night, there's plenty of chances to make friends (or maybe enemies). Feel free to choose your own adventure, and don't worry about boundaries—if it doesn't break the game, it won't break this party post! But be aware that your hosts, one of whom is a warlock and the other a demon hunter, won't stand for any altercations inside the store. Instead, maybe take it outside if the mood or your ex-girlfriend strike you. If you'd like to assume that you're helping run the party—bartending, music playing, etc—go nuts and have fun!

La Bamba
Tutti Frutti
He doesn't get a chance to say so until he catches her at the refreshment table, holding a plate more full of jello than anyone else he'd seen so far. Biting back laughter and a comment about how she must have taste buds of steel, he waves his hand at the offering. "I'm drinking my calories tonight," he says with a smirk, lifting the glass he's cradling in one hand. "As I recall, they found some terrible uses for jello back in the 50s that included tuna fish salad."
no subject
After all, wanting them won't make them come any faster.
Grinning, playfully, at her brother-in-law Izzy adopts a joking pout. "More for me, I guess. It's really not that bad, though." Bringing the jello up to her lips, Izzy takes the bite, not exactly worried about her caloric intake at the moment. She'll burn it off somehow, and she's not entirely unconvinced that she has fantastic metabolism as it is. Tilting her head at Magnus' comment, Issy can't quite help but try and figure out how exactly those two things go together.
"Did you ever taste that? I don't even think I can imagine it.... Sounds like something you'd have to be desperate, or down to the bare minimum, to throw together."
no subject
"It makes for beautiful dessert, but I can't seem to force myself into enjoying the taste." He does grab a small cup of jello off the table, however, because it's a tempting shade of blue. That he uses a spell to infuse it with vodka can be a secret between him and Izzy if she notices the blue spark of his fingers. "Lilith, no," he replied with a shiver, "I'll try most things once, but tuna salad jello isn't one of them. It's the stuff of nightmares, and that's just from looking at it."
no subject
Watching as Magnus takes some jello anyway, performing some magic on the jiggling mass, Izzy can't help but grin, her nose wrinkling a bit impishly with amusement at the blue spark--the magic. "Jello seems easier to make than muffins, you know." She's not sure if Alec told his husband about her complete and utter failure at the bake sale, but she isn't ashamed of it.
And she definitely can't help the laugh at the shiver and disgust that Magnus has toward the jello tuna fish salad. "So that's what scares you. Tuna mixed with jello." Izzy's tone is teasing, but she can understand it, somewhat. "Not everything deserves the 'try it once' rule of thumb." Taking a look around, Izzy can see that the party seems to have drawn a relatively good crowd.
"You happy with the turnout so far?"
no subject
Chuckling at Izzy, Magnus recalls some comments that Alec had made about the muffins. "He mentioned something about them being useful in a fight," he teased with a wink. He admired Izzy's efforts and constant determination to cook, though he thought that he might have to gift her a cookbook if she continued making use of his and Alec's kitchen.
His eyes followed her gaze around the loft, and he nodded happily. "I am, it's nice to see that some people saw the public invitation and decided to arrive. If it had been just family and friends, I'm afraid it would have been a much more intimate gathering."
no subject
"I don't mind the texture, personally, but it is different from most other foods when it comes to texture." Izzy muses, jiggling her own dish of jello a little and watching it sway to and fro. "It's both flexible and keeps it's form." Dumb thing to say, but it is true. Shaking that off Izzy manages to laugh despite the fact that they're now touching on her cooking.
"That's putting it lightly. I think the would have broken someone's teeth had I left them out. Definitely good potential weapons and not actual food." Izzy smiles, managing not to actually be offended, really, in regards to just how terrible her cooking turned out. "I almost took a chunk out of the table with one." There's almost a proud note to her voice as she admits that with a lift of her right shoulder before she takes another bite of her jello.
She and Alec goingso quickly to weaponry probably says something about them as people, but she's not thinking too hard on that.
"And everyone knows a bigger party is much more fun, especially when you take into account the mingling." Izzy winks. "Plus, you got to show off your party-planning skills, which are top-notch. Win/win, right?"
no subject
Nearly wincing at the thought of biting into a muffin and losing his teeth, he raises an eyebrow at Izzy. "You should keep that recipe around to use on enemies. If you've got an unfriendly neighbor, just gift them some dental problems in muffin's clothing." At the thought of her breaking a table with a muffin, though, he truly does wince.
"Right. And Alec seems to be enjoying himself, even if he isn't mingling as much," he says with a fond smile as he nods his head over to where Alec is standing along one wall, arms crossed over his chest.
no subject
Izzy doesn't think of herself as an incredibly violent person, but it just comes...easy to see the damage that something like her muffins could do. It's something that she, Alec, and now Magnus seem to have in common. "Do you and Alec have any that you can't get along with?" Izzy jokes, noting the wince of her brother in law. "No nasty neighbor is safe, but I'm pretty sure you and Alec are." Izzy winks, reassuring Magnus that she won't inflict ther muffin-y wrath on him any time soon.
She can't think of a reason that she would, plus it would definitely not make her brother happy. Even if they were to fight, and she hopes they don't, he wouldn't be happy with her doing anything like that. Shaking that thought off and following Magnus' gaze, Izzy gives a bit of an amused snort. "You know my brother...gooey center but not the person that is quick to be social. Don't tell him I said that, he probably won't like that." Izzy teases, confident grin on her mouth and lifting a hand to wave at her brother.
no subject
Magnus smiles while nodding to agree with the assessment. "A gooey center with a hard shell, but his secret is safe with us" he adds, lifting a hand and zipping up his lips before throwing away the key. "I think people realize it as soon as they spend more than ten minutes and actually try getting to know him."
no subject
She manages, mostly, not to miss any conversational beats, though. Nodding at Magnus' assessment she can't say she disagrees about her brother, not in the least. "That's what I tend to tell people, like Clary when I ran into her." Wetting her lips, considering the fresh reminder....and for the sake of not lying to her brother, Izzy choses the moment to segue into something that she's been putting off.
"Speaking of Alec's gooey center..." Izzy sighs, hating to do this at all. "I promised him that I would ask you to look at my shoulder some time." Holding up the hand opposite the shoulder he managed to touch, Izzy holds it up as a preventative....just in case he worries or is gung-ho like her brother can be at times. "I'm not in a hurry, it's no rush, but whenever you have time coming up. It's been bothering me a little since the accident and you know how Alec worries." Izzy speaks lightly, downplaying it all.
After all, Alec is probably just being a worrywart. That's what she keeps telling herself, anyway. She's not sure why she's put it off until now either, though. And a party is a terrible time to bring it up, but....better now than never, she's sure Alec would say.

When the explanation comes, it brings with it a flash of memories and he instantly regrets forgetting about the injury in the first place and feels idiotic for taking it personally. "Of course, muffin, I'd be happy to take a look and do what I can to help. And not just because Alec is involved," he adds with a smile. Isabelle is the sister of his husband, yes, but that isn't the reason he wants to help. She's a wonderful young woman, and he's confident that they would have become friends regardless of how things had transpired between him and Alec. "Let's leave it for another day, though. Right now my prescription is dancing and drinking," he says, grinning as he creates another cocktail, this one a rich purple in hue, and offers it to Izzy.
no subject
"Thank you, Magnus." The words are genuine as Izzy gives her brother-in-law both a smile and a nod that shows just how much she respects him. She trusts that he'll keep his word. Knows it, actually. The laugh that bubbles up escapes after a moment. "I knew you adored me!" She teases before brightening a the sight of the purple drink that is conjured for her.
"I think that sounds like an excellent idea. My favorite sort of prescription!" Taking the cocktail Izzy lifts it slightly. "To family, mainly the two most stylish individuals in our's, hm?" Izzy winks, playfully, not even letting a lingering injury dull her sparkle and demeanor.

Tutti Frutti
Whatever the reason for the lack of Jell-O in his life, Alec was willing to try it now. Grinning at his sister, he took the sliver she offered. Making a face when he bit into it and realized how odd the texture was, he tried to decide if he liked it or if it was something to avoid at all cost. The flavor wasn't bad. He just wasn't used to food that was so wiggly. "I didn't realize it was so popular then." Looking at the display, he shrugged. "Maybe it was the easiest thing to - " Alec mimicked one of the gestures Magnus used to conjure up various items. "Whip up."
Picking some of the orange with fruit in it, he decided that he didn't mind the texture if there was something else with it. "I don't think Maryse ever made it for us."
no subject
Nodding, her curls bouncing with the bob of her chin, Izzy figures that Alec might be onto something. "Well, it must be easier than baking or other forms of cooking, considering there are so many jellos here, and I get the feeling they aren't the only ones out there." She shrugs, not completely positive she's right. But she has a good feeling about it, really.
"Well, Maryse wasn't the most maternal woman in the world. I don't think making jello for us was high on her list of priorities." It's not hard to tell that Izzy doesn't have a great relationship with her mother. She might not have had the same issues as Alec, but she knows that her mother has issues with her, they don't get along. She had to escape the woman--it's part of the reason that she came here, after all. "It's just another thing we were supposed to do for ourselves, I guess." Izzy shrugs and brushes that topic off to the side, knowing that it's not exactly the best conversation topic for a party.
"Are you happy with your grand opening?"
no subject
Thinking of that proved that he actually did listen to certain members of his family.
"She is to Jace." If Alec said 'is' then they technically weren't talking about the past. It a loophole that he wasn't sure was effective, but he was willing to try since they were out in public. "She makes him soup when he's sick." His expression turned sullen for a moment. Jace had always been the one fussed over while he'd been ignored. When Alec had been dying...
Dying? Where had that thought come from? Forcing a smile, he reached for one of the cookies and offered it to Izzy. "At least you can't get recipes from the Fae anymore. I still don't know why they put peanuts in soup.
"I am. There's more people here than I expected and Magnus seems happy. I've been afraid he'll get bored here and..." His voice trailed off, unsure of how he intended to finish that sentence.
no subject
"Jace gets hugs, on occasion too." Izzy forces a nonchalant shrug, if only because she's trying to prove that it doesn't bother her....though, the truth really is the opposite. It does bother her. And it doesn't escape Izzy's notice that Alec chose to change the tense on her; she still has to work on that talking about the past thing a bit.
Narrowing her eyes at her brother, though, Izzy's hands hover near her hips. "I like peanuts, thank you very much. They're good and salty." Or she's stubborn and doesn't want to admit that a recipe that calls for peanuts in soup is ridiculous. "Magnus did mention a tuna salad recipe with jello earlier, though." It's not a legitimate threat. Just a tease, really. She doesn't have any real intention to try and mix tuna and jello. She doesn't want to give Alec's husband nightmares, afterall.
Sympathy pulls at Izzy's face and she reaches out, squeezing her brother's bicep gently. "He is happy, he seems to be in his element tonight, but I highly doubt that he'll get bored, Alec. He obviously loves you." She can't help but reassure her older brother, seeing the vulnerability there. "And if he does get bored it just means he has to find ways to fill that--or the both of you do--it doesn't mean that he's going anywhere or anything. He tells me that the people here are lovely and he's had some positive things to say too."

"He's the one who can give her grandchildren." As he spoke, he studied his sister, trying to figure out why she was unhappy with Maryse. The two of them had always been close. It was Robert that she'd been angry with when they were in New York. "I thought you and Maryse were doing okay other than her disapproving of - " There'd been a boy. Alec could remember his face and that he owned him a debt that could never be repaid but no matter how much he struggled, he couldn't recall the vampire's name.
Scrunching up his nose at Izzy, he refused to agree to that particular cooking disaster. "They're good but not in soup. Maybe if you were trying something like kung pao chicken it would work." Wait... was he giving Izzy ideas about cooking? This could be dangerous. The grimace turned to a look of horror over the idea of tuna and Jell-O. "No. You are officially banned from the kitchen if you're going to make that."
Alec wasn't certain why he thought Magnus would eventually be unhappy with him. It was an underlying sense of dread that had surfaced occasionally after mentioning the opera to Clary. There was no reason for it. It was obvious every time Magnus looked at him that he loved him, but the word 'trivial' kept eroding at his confidence at strange moments. "He has friends here but it's not the same as New York. What if I'm not enough, Izzy?" he asked softly, finally saying the thought aloud.

Danger, Alec Lightwood, your sister wanting to experiment in any form with fod...is probably a bad idea. And a part of her is even aware of that fact as she says it. Yet it still comes out with a confident smile on her face, all the same. She really doesn'tw ant to talk about their mother. "Disapproving of everything?" Izzy suggests before giving a purposeful shrug. "Sure, we're fine other than that." Sarcasm. See, she can utilize it too?
Shaking that off because it's easier to not talk about her mother than to focus on the subject of the woman for very long, Izzy rolls her eyes. "Says you. You need to keep an open mind about food, just like you should fashion, Alec....and I wasn't serious about the tuna fish thing. I don't want to make my favorite brother-in-law mad so early on." She teases easily. Not to mention she wouldn't subject Alec to that either, but, she's not saying it that way. Alec's the one that gets teased, sorry big bro!
Scrunching her eyebrows a bit, Izzy can't help the decisive shake of her head. "Alec, he's already finding his way here. He's an outgoing person....socially he'll manage what he needs and romantically....you're enough. He wouldn't be here with you now, wouldn't have married you either, if you weren't enough for him. You've just got to realize that you are." Izzy lifts her hand from his arm and forms a fist, playfully, and gives her brother a very light tap in the same arm. "Don't doubt yourself, or what you have, because you do have something special. Something that I hope I can find one day." Izzy offers, trying to do her best to reassure her older brother.
no subject
That wasn't something he wanted to consider while they were at a party. "And I do own a nice suit. Magnus picked it out. Some designer that I can't remember." Even if he wasn't recovering from amnesia, Alec doubted that he'd remember the name.
"No." Why would Maryse disapprove of Izzy. She had always been their mother's favorite. "She doesn't like your boyfriend, but she spends more time with you than the rest of us." Looking around to see if anyone would overhear, he lowered his voice so only Izzy would hear. "Did the two of you have a fight? Is that why you moved here?" If it was, he was sure they could clear it up. Maryse never stayed angry with Izzy for long. Now if the fight had been with their father. "I thought it was Robert you were angry with."
Still giving his sister a confused look, he tried not to react to the idea of tuna experiments. "No. Please help me keep him sane as long as possible." Which would be a very long time...
"I don't want to just be enough." That's all I've ever been to everyone except Jace... Frowning at the thought, he tried to figure out where that had come from. At times their parents were disappointed in him, but Izzy didn't act like he was a disappointment. At least not now. Maybe in the past she and Max...
Forcing a smile, he tried to ignore his doubts while rubbing the spot Izzy had punched. "I just want him to be happy with me and be happy here." It'd work out. He had to believe that but sometimes he needed to tell Izzy about his worries just like he had when he'd realized he wasn't interested in girls the way Jace was. "I thought you found someone."
no subject
She's really not sure what her brother is thinking, though. Maryse more than didn't like her boyfriend. Though, Izzy still can't remember all of the details with an easy recall, she remembers the fact that her mother didn't approve. That disapproval was a part of the reason that she had to get out of there. "I don't think lectures about my decisions being mistakes really count as quality time, Alec." Izzy speaks lightly, being sure that her voice is low to match Alec's. "We've had more than one fight, but she's part of the reason that I moved. Not all, but part, not dad, though." Izzy says, confusion on her face.
Where did he get the idea that she was mad at their dad?
At least he isn't confused about Magnus. "I'll do what I can, for now." Izzy would wink, butn the lingering confusion does have her avoiding it...just a litle bit. Plus, there's the fact that her comment isn't quite...landing the way she meant. "Alec, when I say you're enough I don't mean that you're just enough." Izzy gives her brother a look and then nods. "He is happy here, you make him happy. Whrever you are." Izzy smiles and then gives her brother a shrug because she hasn't found anybody serious, really. "Nope, nobody serious...yet."
There that wink is. She can't Alec think that she's really concerned or not confident about eventually finding that herself.
no subject
"You were mad at Robert because of how he treated me after I came out." And how he'd treated Alec when he was younger, but that wasn't something they needed to get into. Discussing Robert's attempts to make sure his son wasn't gay wasn't the best party conversation. "When you found out what he said to me, you quit talking to him." There was more to it than that. Robert had refused to stay with them in New York, but the comments had been one of the main reasons Izzy had snapped.
"I'll always be grateful for your efforts," he teased, hoping to lighten the mood when he still felt a sense of dread. Something heavy and inescapable. "I don't know why, but I keep thinking something bad will happen that will tear us apart." Somehow it was related to Vienna but Alec wasn't sure how.
"I'm sure you were dating someone, Iz. I kept glaring at him but he wouldn't go away."
no subject
The answer, actually, came easy. Izzy didn't like to worry Alec. There was some truth, though, in Alec's statement about his coming out. "You're right, I am angry with him about that." She remains vague, hoping to skirt the rules about talking about the past. Adding on, though, Izzy sounds a little less confident. "But I don't remember what he said now. And I know that issues with Maryse started before you left. I must have just...kept them to myself until now, apparently." Izzy gives a light shrug in a bit of an 'oops', but it feels much more...sereious than that. However, she doesn't want to...alarm anyone, least of all anyone that might turn them in for the speaking of the past thing.
"You better, I'm amazing and you should never take me for granted." Izzy winks, playfully. The lighter conversation seems a much safer topic. Softening, though, Izzy feels sympathy for her older brother. "Maybe it's related to our parents? I mean, they're not exactly beacons of hope for relationships. You two are still in the honeymoon period, you haven't been married that long. You shouldn't be so focused on that as keeping your relationship going and working." She knows she has a point there, but then again, Izzy doesn't know where this is coming from, really, for Alec.
"Maybe your glare was finally sucessful?" It's a joke, but Izzy doesn't look convinced by that. The fact of the matter is that she doesn't remember a serious relationship. "Either way, I'm single now."
no subject
At the mention of their parents' relationship, Alec was grateful that he hadn't been eating or drinking anything or he might have choked or garbled out some stupid sound that would make everyone look at them. Instead he stared at Izzy, unable to hide his surprise at how casual she was about the divorce. He hadn't expected her to accept the change so quickly. "No, they're not. Maybe that's why I keep worrying that Magnus will get bored." Like Robert had...
"If me glaring ran him off, he wasn't good enough for you." No one would be good enough for Izzy. He'd always think that since he was her big brother but he thought he might have been softening toward what's-his-name. "Probably not for long. If I could find someone, then someone as amazing as you will find someone soon. If you want to."
no subject
Alec and Jace get hugs, after all, she's always gotten the cold shoulder.
"But we are here and I'm pretty happy with the turnout, personally. I love the way this place looks and everything." Izzy informs her brother, just as an aside. Unfortunately, she can see the face he's got going right now. And she knows that she's managed to shock him. She can't help that she says what she thinks. "I think you need to get them out of your mind because Magnus and you are vastly different...in basically every way I can come up with." Izzy gives her brother a smile.
She can't help but do what she can to reassure her brother, a bit of a scoff escaping her mouth. "I don't know if that's all that ran him off, but...fair point." She smiles and then rolls her eyes, playfully, at her brother. She's not quite as hopeful about her own love life as she likes to pretend, but she does give a nod. "That's what I keep telling myself. And I'm on the prowl." A joke, obviously! "So if you see anybody who looks single, well dressed, and interesting point them my way." She sticks her tongue out at her brother, knowing that is not going to be happening, but she can't help the tease before moving to get rid of her jello dish and utensil.
"You've mingled, Mr. Proprieter, right?"
