The black kitten can be found here and there and everywhere, really. He's also prone to just being picked up and brought to someone's home for a while where he stays before wandering off again the next day. He's learned to hide his body when he goes off on a romp in his ghost form, so there will be times when a person has been sitting on a bench for a while when there's a sudden rustle and a small kitten comes wandering out of a bush or dark corner, shaking dry leaves and twigs off his body.
For those who are dead, undead, or are generally sensitive to the supernatural, the black kitten you walk past may appear to be minding its own business where he sits or lies, but an carefree young man's voice will appear in your mind with a casual observation:
"The door's a little stuck."
"Watch your step."
"Pay no attention to the cat in the corner."
The kitten is really out to just observe the proceedings around town, so he can really be found anywhere, either in person or in spirit form. As a spirit, he tries to just stay quiet as he travels around the room though he may not be able to resist pressing a switch to turn on the coffee maker, changing the channel on TV, or rolling a ball around to knock things around.
He's also able to listen in on phone conversations while possessing them, so there may be more than one prying ear when you use the phone there.
Danny had meant to keep just walking by. But when someone told you not to pay attention to something, it was only natural to immediately start looking for it.
Sure enough, there was a cat in the corner. Danny stares at it for a moment.
"Oh, you heard me," comes a chipper young man's voice that doesn't match up with the size of the black kitten. Though the voice is also in their heads so maybe the source isn't cat? "Hello there."
Considering Danny hadn't yet remembered certain important details about his life? This was just confusing him even more. He stares at the cat in complete bemusement.
"But I'm not dead. I think I'd remember something like that. You know?"
Getting rid of unwanted gifts Around May 6th, Jiaying can be spotted carrying a slinky machine from her residence to the school. The wooden contraption is solid but not that heavy. Still, it doesn't keep her from grunting a little as she hefts it in her arms while navigating her path.
"Excuse me," she says politely as she passes people. The sooner she gets rid of this dumb contraption that showed up at her door two months ago, the better.
There's also a small bag looped around her elbow. Hidden in it is a two-tape VHS series on How To Yodel Like The Pros.
School She can be found in school for most of the day on weekdays. While she's more than capable of offering a polite smile to her students and coworkers, as well as carry on conversations with them as needed, she tends to stay in the teacher's lounge doing her lesson plans or holes up in the counseling room for whenever a student needs her.
She used to be a lot more friendly, but as time passes, it seems she's gotten just a bit more withdrawn. That said, if students do misbehave, (like spying on Mr. Rogers's class or wandering around hallways), she will make a note to usher them on their way to their rightful class, so behave, kids.
Counseling Johnson's Wellness Counseling is open after school hours and on weekends. It's nestled in half a store front. Most of her time not spent at school, she spends it here. In the corner of the room that's a blind spot to the camera, there's a small game table with pencil and notepads. The rest of the office is neat, with just enough personal effects to make her seem human but not enough to clutter. She accepts walk-ins and appointments. She doesn't quite advertise her business but the town has been good about sending people her way.
Maybe you're here willingly, or maybe not. Either way, maybe you'll get a free snowcone out of the deal.
Party planning Near the middle of the month, there will be a small flyer outside her office, alongside the standard Wayward Pines signage. It's simple, with just enough color to stand out. On it is an invitation to a get-together party at her residence on the 27th. Everyone's invited. Snacks and drinks will be served.
((OOC: Feel free to handwave your characters knowing about Jiaying's mandarin classes and counseling sessions. We can easily handwave false memories that Jiaying's seen your character before for a session.))
What on earth is that contraption... Rohan can't say that he actually cares to know, but he remembers the woman from before. It had been a while now since he arrived, and he supposed it couldn't hurt to talk to her again now that he actually had his memories back.
So Rohan walks a little faster, and once he catches up to her, he asks, "Do you need a hand?"
This could be his one good deed for the month, probably.
Jiaying hears the steps but she only stops when he speaks. She turns, looking curious before greeting Rohan with a smile.
"Hello again." She looks down at the contraption that seems to rotate at a touch. "If you don't mind. It showed up on my doorstep last month. I think the students will like it more than I do." which isn't much.
[ Students aren't typically the most subtle creatures, even by Steve's standards, so it's not as though he's unaware of the extra attention his classes tend to receive. He's a good teacher because he cares about his subject and doesn't talk down to his students while still commanding a certain amount of respect. They're young and unruly, but if they ever start to get out of hand, a look or pointed comment will usually settle them; not so different from the army, he finds. At least as far as that's concerned.
He tries not to miss days, either, wants his students to trust that he'll be around for when it's really going to matter, but sometimes it's inevitable: when Natasha was sick, and his day spent in a jail cell last Friday. He's not sure if anyone, teachers or students alike, know why he was gone, though he'll certainly tell them if asked. It was one reason he hadn't been grateful to get released early, if his absence didn't have a chance to be noted as something out of the ordinary.
So he doesn't mind the loiterers, or the stragglers, even if there's somewhere else they should probably be. That's by this town's standards, not his own. It takes him a few times to figure out why they're sometimes scattering like cats before he ever has a chance to make his way to the door himself. Then it's another couple of times before he's able to catch up to her afterward. He doesn't think it's his imagination that she's a little harder to pin down elsewhere these days, when they're not busy with their classes.
Luckily, today it occurs close enough to the end of the period that Steve can leave Allison to dismiss the class, and he pushes through the door before she disappears down the hallway. ]
Jiaying.
[ It's not loud, but his voice carries nonetheless. ]
[It's getting harder and harder to bite back the resentment she feels. The toil of facing the people she hates day after day, listening to their problems while pretending she cares. The bright points in her days are few and far between, so the time she takes to herself is to nurse those feelings, cultivate it so she can strike when the time is right.
She stops when she hears her name, turning after a second of schooling of features so she doesn't give anything away. She smiles warmly]
School On the days he does go to school, Shiba's as attentive as it gets. Though sometimes the classes get so boring for him that he just ends up looking out the window while tapping his pen against his pristine notebook. He seems to almost always have an answer to the lesson at hand when a teacher tries to call him out for it though.
He also tends to excuse himself to the bathroom and end up wandering the halls for the remainder of class, so feel free to run into this strange delinquent who somehow still does well in school.
Weaver's He likes sneaking into (or rather walk into like he belongs there) the bar and ordering non-alcoholic drinks while he sits around people watching. It's more than obvious he's young but he doesn't seem like he feels out of place among adults.
If asked about why he's here, he'll raise his glass and say, "It's only illegal if I drink," then winks as he takes a playful sip of his drink.
Sometimes, if someone catches his attention, he'll swing by their table to ask, "is this seat taken?"
Edge of the national park So maybe he likes loitering near the path close to the entrance of the park. He doesn't hide the fact that he's throwing an army knife at the tree bark though, using the trees as target practice. Probably the stranger part of it is, he doesn't have to physically touch the knife to have it fly back and forth between the tree and and himself. Maybe watch out if you happen to be here for a jog though.

Right? Okay, so he knew he still had all kinds of memories missing, but you'd think he'd remember something like talking animals.
"Of course I heard you. You're talking, aren't you?"
