(april intro) WELCOME TO WAYWARD PINES!

waking up
There was an accident. That's basically the only thing you know for certain. Maybe a car wreck - metal and broken glass everywhere, and the sirens and the screaming. Or maybe there was an explosion. Maybe your bike hit a rock and you careened uncontrollably off a mountain path. You can't can't quite make out the details, not who was at fault or why. Try as you might, the chaos is all you can remember.
It's also the last thing you remember from before you wake up here.
When you open your eyes, the accident is gone. Instead, you're in a hospital bed. You're sluggish, covered in a scattering of minor injuries you only vaguely remember getting, not to mention the vaguely-healed remnants of any wounds you might've had before.
It's a shame you won't be able to tell the difference between the two. Your memories are an indiscernible fog if not absent altogether, only a few standing out in your mind with any kind of certainty.
Whether or not the room's empty when you wake, it's not for long. Nurses bustle in looking a bit tired and worn at the edges, like a blurred photograph. They take your vitals and ask your name and anything else you might remember with an air of exhausted distraction about them, and maybe even eye your bed with a look of vacant yearning for a moment before managing to rouse themselves again. Welcome to Wayward Pines, they tell you. You'll make a full recovery here.
Much of what you say (especially anything unusual, anything about monsters or magic or outlandish technology) will earn placating speculation of head trauma “from the accident”. You'll be told to stay put, not to push yourself, and to wait for the doctor to clear you before you leave... though it might be awhile. Then you'll be left alone. The hospital's population is quadruple the usual, and you get the impression the nurses are working themselves ragged just running damage control. You can even leave your room without much fuss - whichever doctor or nurse intercepts you gets called away almost immediately to deal with something even more pressing.
There was an outbreak last week after all, some of the more chatty staff might be persuaded to share. Oh, nothing to worry about now, it's all been taken care of, but there's always so many details to take care of after a scare like that and, look, you should probably come straight back to the hospital if you start feeling sick, okay? Just in case. But honestly, you have nothing to worry about.
Mingle, visit your fellow patients, worry a bit anyway, even poke around for a few basic answers. Or maybe, maybe just stroll right on out the front door.heading outside
One step outside and it's perfectly clear that your hospital gown simply isn't going to cut it for long. A crisp winter wind whips at you through the thin cloth and all around your is the slowly melting evidence of an earlier snow storm, clumps of dirty snow along the edges of buildings and sidewalks, sad misshapen snowmen sliding into slush across a few front lawns. You're probably standing in a small puddle right now, just by a simple law of averages. Geez that water's cold.
Trees line the street at regular intervals, carefully manicured and lightly dusted in snow. Cars cruise by at a safe and respectable speed. Pedestrians spare you glances, some wary and some concerned.
This isn't even the picturesque city center, though a colorful nearby sign reads "Main Street" with an arrow pointing due south, followed in smaller font by a list of businesses you don't recognize and one that you might: Wayward Pines Police Department. Whether you asked for yourself or simply overheard, you've likely caught wind by now that all of your earthly possessions now lie with the Sheriff until you see fit to claim them.
Might as well head that way, right?items reclaimed
So you've visited the Wayward Pines Police Department and reclaimed... well. Most of your stuff, anyway, though you can't quite remember what's missing, and asking the sheriff only gets you a harried look and a form to fill out if you have any concerns. Best to put it out of mind, as you head down the steps toward the Main Street sidewalk. At the very least, pedestrians have stopped looking at you like you're sick or crazy. (Then again, depending on what you're wearing, maybe it's gotten worse.)
The sheriff also forked over what looks like the key to a house ("A cozy place to stay while you're here in town."), and a general direction to start looking for the house that key belongs to, the sheriff pulled away to deal with some other pressing issue before he could give you more detailed instructions. You could check it out, see what kind of digs they're putting you up in. If you can even find it, that is.
Or you could stick around Main Street and sight-see a little. Also a perfectly viable option. Hell, maybe it'll jog your memory a little. A few of the shops do feel inexplicably familiar...MOD NOTES
Welcome to the third newbie mingle log!
This log is meant to cover characters' first day in Wayward Pines. For the most part, only the five memories detailed in your character's application are remembered throughout the duration of this log, although the first couple of false Wayward Pines memories might begin to surface (in those who've opted to utilize this mechanic) as the day wears on. These memories, as noted in the FAQ, feel very real and are accompanied by as much emotion or sentiment as a real memory would be.
PLEASE INCLUDE IN SUBJECT LINE: Character Name, location, and Open or Closed, to help keep things a bit more organized.
If you have any questions regarding this intro log, feel free to ask them on the FAQ or the relevant plurk.

We might be able to. I'm Alec Lightwood. [Should he add Bane since he hadn't legally changed his name yet? It's a complicated situation that he'll figure out later when he talks to his husband.] I memorized a map of the town. I should be able to help you. If you want. I know some people wouldn't want a stranger knowing where they live.
no subject
Memorized? I wish I had thought about doing that. [ she could have taken a picture of it with her tablet, but, at the time, she had been more concerned about getting her stuff and getting out of there. ] I might need you for more than just finding my place, and it’s fine. [ she doesn’t think he’ll do much with that information, but should something strange happen at her place, then he might be one of the first people she talks to about it. ] Do you live around here too?
no subject
That's one of those thoughts to file away for later and not discuss with people he just met on the street.] Fashion was never something I was good at and I have a feeling I'm very punctual.
[The last sounded more like a question than Alec intended but Pepper's probably used to those kinds of question/statements since she's struggling with the same problem he is.]
I just looked at the map and memorized it. I think I have a photographic memory. [Isn't that the only way he could do something like that?] I don't mind helping. Looking and getting the layout of the town is better than trying to figure it out on a map.
[Glancing around to make sure he wouldn't accidentally hit anyone, Alec gestures in the direction of the mini castle that is somehow his and Magnus'.] I live that way, but the town's so small that I think that everything's close to each other.

[ and she can’t blame him for not bringing up his suspicions. she’s made a few casual comments about all of the coincidences, because she’s not sure who she can and can’t trust right now, but she’s told herself to rein it in. she can’t afford to call attention to herself mere hours after getting out of the hospital. ]
Punctual… a rare trait, I find.. [ at least rare among her circle of friends. ] I should have taken a snapshot of it, though I guess I could always go back. [ but she’ll have to do that later. for the time being she’s got alec helping her. ] It sounds like… so consider me jealous. But thank you, really. I feel silly for not remember my own neighborhood. [ her eyes followed his gesture to the small castle and for a few moments she marveled at how unique it was compared to a majority of the other homes. ] Making the rest of us look bad, I see. [ she chuckles, flashing him a smile as she starts down the street. ] Or close enough. If you’ve got the entire map memorized is there anything worth checking out?
no subject
The police seemed... [There's a moment of hesitation as he struggle for the right words. After seeing all the rules, complaining about the law - or is it the Law? - in public seems like a bad idea.] Very by the book.
I can probably draw you a map. I'll help as much as I can. We all have to help each other since so many of us can't remember. [Which sets off every suspicious instinct Alec has because the number of 'accidents' is alarming. Another topic that he's not going to bring up in public. Noticing that Pepper's looking over the house, Alec shrugs, looking faintly amused.] We need a lot of space.
[Walking beside her, he considers the map, trying to decide what would be of interest. He begins by reciting the locations of the grocer and butcher in terms of easy to locate landmarks] There's a bookstore too. [Which seemed very important to Alec when he was checking the map.] The coffee shop is good. I haven't went to the tea shop yet.
no subject
H- Heh. [ her smile falters as her eyes lift to one of the passing cameras. ] By the book, yeah. [ that's one way of putting it. ] But there's nothing wrong with that. [ she had already said plenty about the rules, so she's not too keen on sharing her feelings again. however, by the way her smile tightens he can probably tell she doesn't share her own sentiment. something's up, and broaching the topic, at least in public, isn't wise. ]
If I could remember the password to my tablet I could just have you scribble it on here, but... [ she trails off, upset that she can't remember how to unlock it. when his house comes up again she's more than happy to change her train of thought. ] Really, [ she chuckles. ] I couldn't tell.
[ she doesn't remember the coffee shop as much as she does the tea shop and that strikes her as odd. she could have sworn that coffee ( and espresso ) was more or less her life blood. maybe she's remembering it wrong. ] I'll have check them out... the bookstore too. I also need to check out the school for... some reason... [ it feels important to her. ] I think I work there.

The Law is hard, but it's the Law.
[The phrase keeps coming to mind but Alec knows he's not referring to the signs and the cameras. There's also a hint of carefully disguised frustration in his tone, just enough so that Pepper will know he doesn't agree with the Law.]
You'll remember your password eventually. [They're all supposed to regain their memories... he hopes. Giving Pepper a wry smile, he shrugs at the size of the house.] I think we have hobbies that require space. I'm an archer. Maybe we were planning a range in the back yard.
Caffeine and books were the most important stops. I'm not sure where I work, but I know I don't go to the school.
no subject
I know… it’s just frustrating since I’m sure there are things on it that’ll help me remember who I am. [ faster. she doesn’t doubt that she’ll remember a little here and there as time goes on, but she doesn’t want to have to wait… and, to be honest, she gets the sinking feeling she can’t afford to wait. ]
Oh, well consider me impressed. I don’t think I could hit the broad side of a barn if I tried. [ she shakes her head, stifling a laugh. ] Caffeine is definitely essential to the start of any day. [ her smiles wanes, if only slightly. ] Are you sure it’s not the bookstore?
no subject
I'd hoped to find something at home that would help me figure things out but the house didn't look lived in. [When he'd looked around with Magnus, they'd assumed they'd just moved in. It felt odd though. Too impersonal for someone as flamboyant as Magnus and too generic for someone who is carefully organized like Alec.] Maybe you wrote down the password somewhere?
I think I can hit a target. [Considering the gear and callouses he had, it looked like he practiced regularly.] If I can, I can teach you, if you want.
[Teaching seems right for some reason. Maybe he'd been an archery instructor back in New York. Pausing, he considers Pepper's suggestion, frowning as he puzzles through the fragments of memories and hazy impressions that now make up so much of his thoughts.]
Music. [Not a musician despite the beautiful piano in the castle.] There's a record shop on main street.
no subject
No? That’s not too promising. [ she remembers being surrounded by all sorts of tech and… a disembodied voice? n- no. that’s silly. maybe she hit her head a lot harder than she thought. ] Maybe. I’m sure it’ll come to me eventually. [ hopefully. ]
Really? You… wouldn’t mind? Because, if not, I’d like that. [ it couldn’t hurt to know how to defend herself if, god forbid, something happened. ]
Music? Why don’t we head up Main Street then and check it out? [ she vaguely remembers tony and his “band” and… that’s not something she wants to think about right now. she can’t believe she was a groupie. ]
no subject
But the offer isn't one that a Mundane should make to someone she just met.] How about a rain check on seeing the house until we both know a bit more about ourselves?
[Knowing that worrying about their memories won't help heal their injuries, Alec shifts to his suggestion of weapons practice. That's something he knows that he's good and he thinks he'd be good at teaching others.]
I don't mind. They said it'd be a month before I can have my bow but after that, I can set something up. If we can find a smaller one for you.
Records, I think. [That seems right. Kind of but Alec isn't sure why it almost feels like a secret.] We should take a look. I was too distracted trying to get home and figure out who I was to notice anything but the most important stores.
