( june event ) who's that pokemon?

EVENT: WHO'S THAT POKEMON?

For the residents of Wayward Pines, the 19th is just your typical boring Monday. The sun is shining. The birds are chirping.

Until suddenly, they're not.

That's the first sign. Maybe you don't even notice — you're far too busy with your nine-to-five, or maybe even by poolside, blissfully ignorant to the trouble brewing just out of sight, or to the fact that SPF 15 is basically just water anyway. Or maybe you aren't quite so lucky. You notice the birds have gone silent. You feel the eyes upon you, unseen but still raising goosebumps on the back of your neck.

And then from the woods, that telltale scream.

No, two screams, then three, then five, then more than a dozen. You can't count them, can't figure out which direction they're coming from. It's like they're all around you now. Even above you. Now you spot them on the rooftops — god, they're huge, you can't even fathom how they made it up there unnoticed.

But they're not playing at stealth anymore. One leaps off the roof, a single fluid bound on long thick limbs, and barely lands on the sidewalk for a moment before it lunges at the nearest person — your neighbor mowing his lawn, or maybe the woman carrying that armful of bags out of French's Grocery — long claws slicing through their flesh like a hot knife through butter. Then comes another, and another. Into the streets, the backyards, and the ill-timed pool parties, tearing through every living soul they can find.

By nightfall, the creatures have retreated back into the woods en masse, but anyone foolish enough to wander too far from the safety of their homes runs the risk of being picked off one by one if they're not careful. The 20th and 21st follow a similar pattern; during the day, the Sheriff and a team of volunteers comb through the woods looking for survivors, and during the night, these creatures do much the same.

The morning of the 22nd dawns with the last of the vicious "murder potatoes" (as Linda had hysterically dubbed them on the first day while wielding a butcher's knife with astonishing proficiency) have fallen, and the danger is gone.

For now, anyway. The questions they leave behind, however? Those are here to stay.

raven sits back a little abruptly at the knock — she was lost in concentration, eye to the scope of her rifle, and frankly? she probably needed a good excuse to pull her head out of the fight for a few minutes. god forbid raven figure out how to pace herself.

despite the slight start she gave at iris's arrival, the tired grin she offers is genuine. appreciative even.

Looks like you came to the right place. ❰ she lays the rifle lengthwise along the windowsill, then leans to snag another chair from nearby to pull it up along the window so iris can sit with her.

[Iris smiles at Raven, quickly taking the opportunity to sit by her side. She won’t complain or say anything out loud about it, but if she’s honest standing up with the crutches isn’t exactly comfortable. Plus, it means that Raven is really welcoming her here- She had seemed so focused just a second ago she’d been afraid she’d only be the worst kind of distraction.]

Have you been eating and drinking?

[She’s aware tensions are high. Especially here at the hospital, where people come to hide and find safe to rest because they can’t exactly fight back. But she isn’t going to stop worrying about people she cares about any time soon.]

honestly, much of raven's apparent focus stems from the fact that she had no better way to spend all these shitty sleepless hours. she's throwing her full attention into this to keep her mind off everything else that went down today.

so the distraction is not only okay — it's welcome.

the question's a good one, and as 'on top of things' as raven has managed to feel so far, she doesn't have a definitive answer. her gaze drops, a little sheepishly.
❱ Probably not enough, ❰ she says, but lifts a shoulder in a half-shrug. ❱ It's fine. I'm used to it.

they're not supposed to talk about the past, but in the middle of a crisis, and with such a vague comment? she's not too worried about consequences, really.

[Iris nods, knowing how to read between the lines even if she doesn’t really know much about Raven’s life. She isn’t sure how much of the Raven she remembers is the real, actual Raven but… well, one of the few things that allows her to sleep through the doubts at night is that the Iris she remembers in Insomnia isn’t that different from the Iris she remembers in this place, when it comes to her personality. She’s still herself. So maybe Raven is still Raven, as well.

And Raven is a very strong, very independent woman. So Iris is definitely wondering what happened in her life to shape her like this.]

Well, ‘used to it’ isn’t the same as ‘good for you’. So… [She motions at the food she brought. It’s not much, just some hospitals supplies she found so it’s going to be inducibly bland. But still.]

What do things look like, out there?
