I. Rock Around The Clock
Being that this party is for the opening of a music store, it makes sense that the main feature of the night is a dance floor! Music from throughout the 1950s will be playing, both in the store itself as well as the large loft above that has been converted into a miniature sockhop for everyone in attendence. Records and streamers hang from the ceilings and there is a lot of black, white, and pink to be seen. There's also a small stage in one corner set up for anyone brave enough to pick up one of the guitars that usually adorn the shop downstairs, as well as several microphone stands that are hooked up to a karaoke machine. Come in and dance the night away! Anyone wearing era-appropriate attire will random prizes.
II. All Shook Up
Being that this is a Magnus party, there is a wide range of cocktails to sample being made at the open bar. Most of them are were what was popular at the time—Manhattans, Old Fashioneds, the classic Gin & Tonic—but requests for specialty drinks are being taken as well. There are also, in true 50s style, milkshakes that are creamy enough to tempt even those who would usually try to resist. But there's a twist: they're alcoholic. None will be served to minors, but it's totally possible that the adults won't realized their delicious treats are spiked until after they've had their second (or third) glass. Also, though the upper loft is well-lit for dancing, the first-floor store has plenty of dark corners for making bad decisions. So grab your honey, grab a drink, and enjoy the night together.
III. Tutti Frutti
Half of the upper loft is dedicated to refreshments as well as boasting furniture looks like it was ripped from a diner—you guessed it, chrome with red vinyl upholstery. A table along one wall is ladden with miniature versions of popular diner food— cheeseburgers, hot dogs, even tuna melts—as well as french fries and plenty of other finger food. And, because this is the 1950s, there's jello. Lots of jello. So much jello that it's insane, how can anyone love jello this much? Luckily, if you don't go ape over gelatine-based desserts, there are also record-shaped cookies and non-alcoholic milkshakes for the kiddies. Seeing as this is a small town with families, and thus minors, there are plenty of drink options for those who aren't yet old enough to drink or who prefer not to.
IV. La Bamba
No invite is necessary, IC or OOC, for anyone who'd like to jump in and join the party! It's safe to assume that flyers have been up around town to announce the time and place. Hopefully, with enough people in attendance throughout the night, there's plenty of chances to make friends (or maybe enemies). Feel free to choose your own adventure, and don't worry about boundaries—if it doesn't break the game, it won't break this party post! But be aware that your hosts, one of whom is a warlock and the other a demon hunter, won't stand for any altercations inside the store. Instead, maybe take it outside if the mood or your ex-girlfriend strike you. If you'd like to assume that you're helping run the party—bartending, music playing, etc—go nuts and have fun!

Tutti Frutti
There'd also been those parties in Europe...
Pushing aside those thoughts before he started to blush, he glanced over at his husband, smiling when he realized that Magnus was enjoying the party as much as Alec hoped. Technically, the party might be for Alec and the shop, but Magnus was the one who thrived in this kind of setting.
There'd bee one party though... cats and rats and Clary angry at Magnus for some reason. Shaking off the memory, he focused on the redhead beside him instead of the one in his memory. "Green Jell-O?" Looking around the table, Alec held up a small tower of rainbow gelatin, looking far too pleased that one layer was a vivid green. "I think it's lime."
Tutti Frutti
She supposed she'd have to eat through all the other layers if she wanted to get the the green jell-o. "I wonder how it was layered like that?" It didn't seem that important the moment that the question was out of her mouth.
Clary looked up at Alec shifting her weight between her heels. "You seem at ease. I didn't think parties like this was your kind of thing." Those memories of another party continued to tease at her thoughts but she pushed them away, trying to ignore the feeling.
It hadn't been a good party.

"I think Magnus magicked it up but he said something about letting the layers set?" The explanation shouldn't have been a question but Alec really had no idea. When he threw together makeshift meals for his siblings, wiggly desserts hadn't been a priority.
Letting out a sigh, he idly rubbed the base of his palm. He almost asked if she wanted him to leave but she seemed to want t talk to him. "I don't know if I'm really 'at ease' but I'm more comfortable with being around people than I used to be. Magnus loves parties and he knows to make sure there's someplace quiet I can go when there's too many people around. I don't really like crowds but this is a good way to get people to notice the shop and to share music. Jace likes music but our tastes are supposed to be only classical."

Maybe that was why she liked them. They had a place. Clary felt out of place and she wished that her mother would just come home and be with her here. Then maybe that feeling would get better.
"Does that mean there is some sort of spell on them?" She couldn't help her smile, her mind now distracted from the previous thoughts of her mother. "It'd be fun to eat jell-o and the giggle for a few seconds because of it." She didn't know what sort of things Warlocks could do but it'd be a fun exploration to make treats that were entertaining and relatively harmless.
There was something about what Alec was saying. It made sense to Clary but she didn't remember having a context for it. She stared at Alec as if seeing him for the first time. "Jace? Who is that?" She felt like she was supposed to know that name. It was someone important. Someone she shouldn't have forgotten like that boy with the glasses who sometimes appeared in her dreams. Why couldn't she remember? Who was he? And why did think about him leave an unfamiliar pain in her chest?

"The magic doesn't really infuse things that Magnus conjures up. That takes more work." At least Alec assumed it did. They were both still trying to figure out how Magnus' magic worked. Since Alec didn't have any frame of reference for it other than what he knew from Magnus, they were both occasionally at a loss over how those abilities worked. "I think the closest to a spell would be ones that he turned into Jell-O shots." Which, technically, neither Clary nor Alec should be having.
Eyebrows creeping upward, he tried to speak, but momentarily was at a loss for words. Clary and Jace were inseparable, weren't they? There'd been a time when he'd thought... What? When he tried to grasp the answer, the details slipped away. "He's my b - " Brother, but that wasn't completely right. Jace was more than that but he also didn't completely feel like family. Not the way Izzy and Max did. There was an undercurrent of something there that Alec couldn't explain. "He's my best friend."

Jace. The name brought conflicted feelings with it. She wouldn't be able to described what he looked like but it was like a blank page in her sketchbook, she knew that it'd be filled with something, only she had yet to realize what that something was. Her lips remained positioned in a soft frown before relaxing into an awkward smile. "Best friends are the best." Her voice wasn't as light as she wanted it to be but she was trying.
There was an ache in her chest and the more she felt it, the more she didn't want to think of Jace.
"So, um... did you come with your sister? I met her a few days ago." She was nothing like Alec but Clary liked her.
no subject
"They are. Even when you want to tie them up and leave them in a closet for a few hours." Especially when the best friend kept making closet jokes to try to rile him up. He'd never actually done it. Alec was certain of that but he was sure that he'd imagined doing it to Jace regularly while they were growing up.
Glancing over at Clary, he kept his expression serious while amused by the question. "I actually had a date tonight who wasn't my sister." Despite the teasing, he knew that he made Clary nervous even though he wasn't sure why. Hadn't they been friends in New York? "Izzy's here. She should be mingling and charming everyone. I'm sure she wouldn't mind some company - " At least that would give Clary a polite out if she wanted to get away from him.

It wasn't his fault that Alec made her a little nervous. She wanted him to like her and Clary had the tendency of putting too much pressure on herself.
"And for the record. I have often thought of tying up my best friend and shoving him into the closet for a few hours." Clary smiled brightly at him. Best friends were suppose to give you a little bit of trouble, that's what made them so great.
no subject
"I wasn't sure if that was normal or not," Alec admitted, smiling wryly. "I know part of the reason the closet was so tempting was because of all the jokes Jace made after I started dating." Of course keeping Jace in a closet until he listened to the voice of reason - usually Alec - might mean things would be calm for awhile.
no subject
"I think it's normal to think about. If you were successful in doing it I'm just impressed." Clary didn't think she had the strength to tie someone up and shove them in a closet. Which was probably a good thing.
Clary scrunched her nose but continued to smile. "He sounds like a jerk."
no subject
"I don't know if I managed it or not. I don't think so." For some reason he didn't think he'd ever do something like that to Jace. It was too similar to something... To what?
"Jace isn't a jerk." That wasn't quite true. "Sometimes he can be a jerk but it's mostly because he doesn't know how to interact with people. Neither one of us really do."
no subject
Her eyes were pulled past him where she had spotted Izzy breaking away from the crowd. "Oh. I should say hi to Izzy while she's free." Mostly because Clary didn't think she'd have the guts to do it while she was talking in a big group.
Her attention focused on Alec. "That okay?" She didn't want to be impolite and she thought that she understood Alec a little bit more. It was interesting and slowly she felt her view of him shift and change.
no subject
Following Clary's gaze, he nodded when she suggested saying hello to Izzy. "It's okay. You've probably missed her. Or would have if it weren't for that pesky amnesia."
no subject
"Ah, right." Her tone was a little bit awkward before turning to head off. Not remembering things was starting to annoy Clary but at the moment there wasn't anything she could do about it.
It was probably best not to think about it until then.
