(may intro) WELCOME TO WAYWARD PINES!

INTRODUCTION LOG

MAY 1ST - 3RD
AFTER THE ACCIDENT
There was an accident. The details are hazy and obscure, but it's still the first thing you remember. Maybe a car wreck — metal and broken glass everywhere, and the sirens and the screaming. Maybe your bike hit a rock and you careened uncontrollably off a mountain path. Maybe something less mundane, even impossible seems to have happened to you. You can't quite make out the details, not who was at fault or why. Try as you might, the chaos is all you can truly remember.

It's also the last thing you remember from before waking up.

When you open your eyes, the accident is gone, replaced with white sterility. Perhaps somewhat alarming at first, until you blink at your surroundings and realize that you're in a hospital bed. You try to move but are sluggish, covered in a scattering of minor injuries you only vaguely remember receiving, not to mention the possibility of the partially healed remnants of other, seemingly older wounds.

It's a shame you won't be able to tell the difference between the two. Your memories are an indiscernible fog where they're not absent altogether, only a few standing out in your mind with any kind of certainty.

If the room happens to be empty when you wake, it's not for long. Nurses bustle in, taking your vitals and asking your name and anything else you might remember. Don't worry, they tell you. You'll make a full recovery here. Much of what you say (especially anything unusual, anything about monsters or magic or outlandish technology) will earn placating speculation of head trauma from the accident. You'll be told to stay put, not to push yourself, and to wait for the doctor to clear you before you leave.

Then you'll be left alone. Or maybe you'll find yourself visited by loved ones: family, or friends. You've lived here much or all of your life, so of course you have those things. Of course they already remember you being here, and may remember visiting you in the hospital while you were still unconscious.

Either way, the hospital's population is quadruple the usual, and you get the impression the nurses are working themselves ragged just running damage control. You might hear talk around the hospital of other small population spikes over the past few days, though many patients appeared to be well enough to be released the same day, and the same might be said of you. Or at least the staff doesn't seem to be too concerned. You can even leave your room without much fuss, any doctor or nurse that might try to intercept you getting called away almost immediately to deal with something even more pressing.

Of course, it's not so unusual to settle in until you're discharged, either. You may choose to wait for loved ones to come pick you up, even speak to your fellow patients, whether roommates or others wandering the halls. The more enterprising and suspicious might even consider it an opportunity to poke around for a few basic answers.

MAY 1ST - 4TH
GETTING USED TO HOME AGAIN
However you get there, outside the birds sing a joyful song, and though the air is just a bit crisp, the sky's as sunny as you've ever seen it. It's bright enough to make you squint for a moment before you feast your eyes on the quaint little mountain town of Wayward Pines, though that might just be some sort of side effect from your accident. Trees line the street at regular intervals, carefully manicured and slightly waterlogged from the recent flood. Cars cruise by at a safe and respectable speed. Fellow pedestrians spare you glances, some wary, others concerned or just friendly. It probably depends on how clothed you were when you left the hospital.

This isn't even the picturesque city center, though a colorful nearby sign reads "Main Street" with an arrow pointing due south, followed in smaller font by a list of businesses you don't recognize (could be a good direction to head in, though — maybe it'll jog your memory), and one that you might: Wayward Pines Sheriff's Department. You've likely caught wind by now that any clothing or other items you had on you at the time of your accident are being held by the Sheriff until you're well enough to claim them. Not to mention the keys to your home, kept locked and safe at the station for you. That should probably be your next stop, though if anything's missing in what they hand over you'd be the last to know.

It's time to get home, to recover from your ordeal and try to sort through your memories. Do you remember this house, the pictures of family on the walls and how to navigate to the bathroom in the middle of the night? Maybe it's easier with loved ones living with you, helping you get settled, or maybe you're on your own. Either way, over the next few days it's a good idea to try to remember your routines, to get out and finally visit Main Street if you haven't already. Maybe you even remembered that you work in one of the more familiar sounding shops, or elsewhere in town. Makes sense they'd give you some time off to recover and get reacclimated to your life here, but eventually you should probably get back to work. You haven't seen your co-workers in a few days, and besides, you have to be able to put bread on the table.

Or at the very least some of the delicious treats at the school bake sale you're seeing flyers for all over town!

MAY 5TH
ANNUAL BAKE SALE, PRESENTED BY THE PTA!

It's that time of year again. The time when everyone digs into their wallet, ignores their diet, and spends a little time supporting the local school bake fair. You know, for the good of the children. Or, in this particular case, the hospital. There's no denying the hospital has had a hard time of it lately, between the steady influx of accident victims at the start of each month and the recent outbreak scare, and the Wayward Pines Academy PTA has come up with the perfect solution to show their support to the hard working hospital staff by vowing to donate half of the proceeds for the sale today. Maybe the hospital can see about finally getting the staff breakroom a decent coffee machine!

And it doesn't hurt that Linda's Blondie recipe is honestly to die for. The PTA has pulled out all the stops this year in the hopes of encouraging a good community turn out, posters advertising the sale plastering every street corner and flyers stuffed into every mailbox for a solid week leading up to the event, and today is finally the day.

There's at least two dozen different tables set up with all manner of delectable treats, even one or two offering vegan alternatives for those inclined. Not to mention a few others catering to some of the townspeople's more... unique palates.

Maybe you've got your own table set up with your wares, or were simply lured to the park today by the appetizing scents wafting through the air. Either way it seems like the whole town has come out to show their support today, and why wouldn't they? Children are our future, after all. Or maybe it's just Linda's Blondie recipe.

Yeah, that's probably it.

MOD NOTES

Welcome to our fourth mingle log for newbies and oldbies alike!

This log is meant to cover characters' first five days in Wayward Pines. Characters for this round will appear staggered in the hospital between the 1st and the 3rd, and a CR building event will occur on the 5th, after everyone has had a suitable amount of time to get settled in town. For the most part, only the five memories detailed in your character's application are remembered throughout the duration of this log, although their false Wayward Pines memories may also begin to surface (in those who've opted to utilize this mechanic) as the week wears on. These memories, as noted in the FAQ, feel very real and are accompanied by as much emotion or sentiment as a real memory would be.

PLEASE INCLUDE IN SUBJECT LINE: Character Name, date, location, and Open or Closed, to help keep things organized and make your character easy to find.

If you have any questions regarding this intro log, feel free to ask them on the FAQ or the relevant plurk.

[ She has a keen eye, or Damon doesn't look like a baker. He's never been a baker, so he doesn't have time to be offended by that.

Before he can answer, however, the familiar wave of disparate memories flash before him, memories of a playful relationship, but only ever that. And a deeply meant threat to his manhood should he ever break his wife's heart. He relishes the days when he barely has an ingrained connection to someone. ]

Would you believe me if I said, mine? Katherine and I took a cooking class. It proved fruitful. [ Lies. All lies. ]

[Izzy isn't quite expecting the trigger of familiarity that hits her so quickly. It's the name, though: Katherine that strikes her as every familiar. And another few names flow into her head automatically...Damon (the husband), Stefan (the brother-in-law), Elena (the sister)...Katherine's husband and extended family.

Katherine being her friend. The first person that she met when she got into town, the other woman who she has things in common with. It's strange how quickly all of that hits her, but Izzy manages to keep the reaction to the memories off of her face.]

I wouldn't, nope. [Izzy laughs a little bit, playfulness going nowhere.] You're not the Betty Crocker type, Damon. Was it Stefan? [The names come out easily as Izzy holds the cookie up to sample it, pretty confident in her assessment...and if she's wrong, oh well, but she's always been one to trust her instincts.]
unforgivably: (if i did that then i wouldn't win)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-05 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Why does everyone think I can't cook. I make breakfast. And I cook a mean steak. [ So. There. But he keeps eye contact, not budging until - well, he budges. ] Fine. Stefan baked them. But Katherine stood to the side and provided colorful commentary, Elena didn't touch them, and I think I was in the other room doing something. But, I contributed my emotional support. Doesn't that count for something?
withstyle: (grin)

[personal profile] withstyle 2017-05-05 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Izzy waits, her smirk firmly in place, and manages to actually be patient. Alec would be proud if he knew! Her laugh escapes when her friend's husband tells on himself.] Theeeere we go. [She sing-songs, taking another nibble from her cookie.]

Breakfast and steaks don't take much effort, but if it'll help your pride and make you feel like you were involved I'll say it counts. [Izzy holds up her free hand, holding her thumb and forefinger the tiniest bit apart.] A little bit, anyway. Does that make you feel better?
unforgivably: (beyond the pines)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-05 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Tons. Have you seen my wife around here? [ He's genuinely not interested, but with Elena there he's now 110% more interested in her whereabouts. Probably not what Katherine would want, but, that's how it is. He hasn't made the sibling connection yet, having not spoken yet to Elena, or anyone who'd tell him. To him, Katherine has always seen Elena as the mouse she chased, the pawn in a game she'd never end herself. It's hard not to hate her all over again with Elena here, if not in solidarity, because he's reminded every day of what she did to Elena. And them.

But, his smile persists. ]

You're easy to please. [It's definitely another tease, accompanied by a lift of the perfectly plucked right eyebrow, considering his question and the abrupt change to ask it. Izzy can't help but wonder] Not yet today, why, have you lost her?

[And yes, she says this all with a smile. Because you're not the only one who can keep one in place, Damon. Tilting her head, though, Izzy can't quite hold back the followup question...still playful.] Or are you already itching for someone to relieve you?
Edited 2017-05-05 08:13 (UTC)
unforgivably: (that smarts)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-05 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The abrupt turn comes with the territory, playing up their happy marriage. Hard to be taken seriously when you're avoiding your wife at all costs. Or getting into public St. Patrick's Day fights. ] We both know Katherine can handle herself. [ If she were lost. She could get lost. His life would be less complicated. Not by much, but by enough. ] Really? You don't think the monotony of standing by a table of cookies my brother baked sustains me? My carefully built facade is crumbling.
withstyle: (grin)

[personal profile] withstyle 2017-05-05 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Izzy nods; she does know that her friend can handle herself. They've got that in common, after all. It was probably a part of the reason that the two of them got along (or at least that Izzy remembered them getting along).

Rolling her eyes, Izzy nibbles on the cookie again.]
I take back the easy to please comment already, you see what you did? [She gestures with the cookie and the gives Damon a nonchalant shrug.] It is highly doubtful with your attention span.

[That is how he caught her tossing her own wares, after all. He was looking around and letting his attention wander, or at least, that's the way it seems to Izzy.] I'm sure you'll be fine manning the table a little longer, it is the least you can do, considering your emotional support only gets you so much credit. [Yep, another tease.]

If you want I can keep an eye out for her, or Stefan, to tell them how bored you are, though?
unforgivably: (maybe)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-06 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ He resents that, his attention span is fine, but maybe this version of him has the attention span of a gnat, considering what he gets up to outside of his marriage. ]

Knock yourself out. They won't be surprised, nor will they take pity on me. [ He's stuck here for another hour. ] And, how is your brother?
withstyle: (grin)

[personal profile] withstyle 2017-05-07 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That's probably true. [Izzy grins, amusedly, at Damon's likely correct assumption before giving a dainty shrug.]

He's in the newlywed bliss stage still. Very happy. Disgustingly so, actually. [Despite putting it that way, Izzy's extremely happy for her brother, really, she is. If there's anybody who deserves to truly have found happiness it's definitely her big brother.

That doesn't mean that he's not still disgustingly 'newlywedish' about it.]
And I'm just glad that he is, despite having his baby sister hanging around.
Edited (accidentally erased part of my post, derp) 2017-05-07 20:03 (UTC)
unforgivably: (oh well if that's what they're saying)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-08 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
That'll pass. [ He's bitter, isn't he. Only a bit. Only because of who he's married to, and it's less like the Damon everyone seems to know here. So, he turns that frown into a smile. A joke. Even though it does always pass. It shouldn't. He doesn't want it to with Elena, when they make it there. And they will.]

You're living with them? [ This town and its' living arrangements. ]
withstyle: (fondness)

[personal profile] withstyle 2017-05-10 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Izzy laughs and then gives a roll of her eyes; she isn't entirely sure that her brother's marital happiness will pass like Damon thinks. Magnus and Alec aren't quite like him and Katherine. They're...happier, or at least they seem it in comparison to what she remembers of her friend and her husband.] Maybe, but they're pretty happy. Almost enough to make me jealous sometimes.

[That's definitely a joke, though, if she weren't as confident as she is....she might find a little more to be jealous about.

Nodding, though, Izzy gives a bit of a shrug.]
For the moment, anyway. They've got quite a bit of room, considering Magnus' tastes and penchant for decorating. Guess I'm just lucky Magnus doesn't mind Alec's little sister being around.
unforgivably: (she's enjoying herself)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-10 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
You'll find your Magnus.

[ He wants to say she'll find her Elena, but it would be Katherine, wouldn't it? He wouldn't be able to pull off that though. ]

He likes you. Who wouldn't? [ He would. ] Plus, you two have very similar tastes. Style. [ Etc. ]
withstyle: (hmmm?)

[personal profile] withstyle 2017-05-12 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
[The smile is easy, as in the wink.] Look at you being a regular sweetheart, Damon. Guess I ran into you on a lucky day.

[She does remember that he can have his moments, even if Katherine is her friend and she has a tendency to side with said friend. Damon, though, is obviously not all bad. Loyalty, though, has always meant something to Izzy. Still, he's a good guy. And she's not even teasing this time.] I'm sure there are a few who don't, but thank the... [Angel? What? That's probably not a normal saying, is it?] Gods or whatever that Alec picked a good one that I have things in common with, otherwise he'd probably be screwed.

[The tone is playful, but there's some truth; Izzy can't imagine life if she weren't welcome here or if she didn't get along with her brother's chosen partner. They've always been close and losing him, even to marriage, would suck.] Style is a great basis for a friendship. [Izzy shrugs a bit.]

That's more than enough about me, how've you been? Other than being supportive about cookies and manning the cookie table, hm?
unforgivably: (good bourbon)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-13 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha. Ha.

[ But, she did. She really did. Elena's here now. Maybe she's not Elena, but in ways, she is.

His smile doesn't waver, but he's reminded again about this life he leads. ]

Other than Elena's little accident, [ Which he shouldn't care as much about ] I bartend now. I'm at Weavers a few nights during the week. You should come by.

[personal profile] withstyle 2017-05-15 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I know, I'm hilarious. But you are in good form today. [She speaks with that same confident smile, though it melts into one of sympaty for Katherine's sister.]

There are a lot of those going around here. [She can't quite hold back the eyeroll, though, she knows she really should....especially with all of the damn notices hanging up around about the past and all that.] I hope she's okay, though. [Her own shoulder is still bothering her, personally.] Ooooh, I'll definitely have to stop by and see you in action. Pestering you is pretty fun on occasion. [Izzy winks before taking a look around at the rest of the bake sale.]

But I better leave you to your cookie manning boredom for now, I've got a bit more bake sale to check out. Mingling to do!
unforgivably: (you almost had it)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-16 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Just dealing what we all go through. Inconvenient memory loss. [ Suddenly onset. ]

Don't do anything I wouldn't do. [ And with that, with that glint in his eye, he frees her from his banter so she can give the rest of the bake sale the run around. ]
