(may intro) WELCOME TO WAYWARD PINES!

INTRODUCTION LOG

MAY 1ST - 3RD
AFTER THE ACCIDENT
There was an accident. The details are hazy and obscure, but it's still the first thing you remember. Maybe a car wreck — metal and broken glass everywhere, and the sirens and the screaming. Maybe your bike hit a rock and you careened uncontrollably off a mountain path. Maybe something less mundane, even impossible seems to have happened to you. You can't quite make out the details, not who was at fault or why. Try as you might, the chaos is all you can truly remember.

It's also the last thing you remember from before waking up.

When you open your eyes, the accident is gone, replaced with white sterility. Perhaps somewhat alarming at first, until you blink at your surroundings and realize that you're in a hospital bed. You try to move but are sluggish, covered in a scattering of minor injuries you only vaguely remember receiving, not to mention the possibility of the partially healed remnants of other, seemingly older wounds.

It's a shame you won't be able to tell the difference between the two. Your memories are an indiscernible fog where they're not absent altogether, only a few standing out in your mind with any kind of certainty.

If the room happens to be empty when you wake, it's not for long. Nurses bustle in, taking your vitals and asking your name and anything else you might remember. Don't worry, they tell you. You'll make a full recovery here. Much of what you say (especially anything unusual, anything about monsters or magic or outlandish technology) will earn placating speculation of head trauma from the accident. You'll be told to stay put, not to push yourself, and to wait for the doctor to clear you before you leave.

Then you'll be left alone. Or maybe you'll find yourself visited by loved ones: family, or friends. You've lived here much or all of your life, so of course you have those things. Of course they already remember you being here, and may remember visiting you in the hospital while you were still unconscious.

Either way, the hospital's population is quadruple the usual, and you get the impression the nurses are working themselves ragged just running damage control. You might hear talk around the hospital of other small population spikes over the past few days, though many patients appeared to be well enough to be released the same day, and the same might be said of you. Or at least the staff doesn't seem to be too concerned. You can even leave your room without much fuss, any doctor or nurse that might try to intercept you getting called away almost immediately to deal with something even more pressing.

Of course, it's not so unusual to settle in until you're discharged, either. You may choose to wait for loved ones to come pick you up, even speak to your fellow patients, whether roommates or others wandering the halls. The more enterprising and suspicious might even consider it an opportunity to poke around for a few basic answers.

MAY 1ST - 4TH
GETTING USED TO HOME AGAIN
However you get there, outside the birds sing a joyful song, and though the air is just a bit crisp, the sky's as sunny as you've ever seen it. It's bright enough to make you squint for a moment before you feast your eyes on the quaint little mountain town of Wayward Pines, though that might just be some sort of side effect from your accident. Trees line the street at regular intervals, carefully manicured and slightly waterlogged from the recent flood. Cars cruise by at a safe and respectable speed. Fellow pedestrians spare you glances, some wary, others concerned or just friendly. It probably depends on how clothed you were when you left the hospital.

This isn't even the picturesque city center, though a colorful nearby sign reads "Main Street" with an arrow pointing due south, followed in smaller font by a list of businesses you don't recognize (could be a good direction to head in, though — maybe it'll jog your memory), and one that you might: Wayward Pines Sheriff's Department. You've likely caught wind by now that any clothing or other items you had on you at the time of your accident are being held by the Sheriff until you're well enough to claim them. Not to mention the keys to your home, kept locked and safe at the station for you. That should probably be your next stop, though if anything's missing in what they hand over you'd be the last to know.

It's time to get home, to recover from your ordeal and try to sort through your memories. Do you remember this house, the pictures of family on the walls and how to navigate to the bathroom in the middle of the night? Maybe it's easier with loved ones living with you, helping you get settled, or maybe you're on your own. Either way, over the next few days it's a good idea to try to remember your routines, to get out and finally visit Main Street if you haven't already. Maybe you even remembered that you work in one of the more familiar sounding shops, or elsewhere in town. Makes sense they'd give you some time off to recover and get reacclimated to your life here, but eventually you should probably get back to work. You haven't seen your co-workers in a few days, and besides, you have to be able to put bread on the table.

Or at the very least some of the delicious treats at the school bake sale you're seeing flyers for all over town!

MAY 5TH
ANNUAL BAKE SALE, PRESENTED BY THE PTA!

It's that time of year again. The time when everyone digs into their wallet, ignores their diet, and spends a little time supporting the local school bake fair. You know, for the good of the children. Or, in this particular case, the hospital. There's no denying the hospital has had a hard time of it lately, between the steady influx of accident victims at the start of each month and the recent outbreak scare, and the Wayward Pines Academy PTA has come up with the perfect solution to show their support to the hard working hospital staff by vowing to donate half of the proceeds for the sale today. Maybe the hospital can see about finally getting the staff breakroom a decent coffee machine!

And it doesn't hurt that Linda's Blondie recipe is honestly to die for. The PTA has pulled out all the stops this year in the hopes of encouraging a good community turn out, posters advertising the sale plastering every street corner and flyers stuffed into every mailbox for a solid week leading up to the event, and today is finally the day.

There's at least two dozen different tables set up with all manner of delectable treats, even one or two offering vegan alternatives for those inclined. Not to mention a few others catering to some of the townspeople's more... unique palates.

Maybe you've got your own table set up with your wares, or were simply lured to the park today by the appetizing scents wafting through the air. Either way it seems like the whole town has come out to show their support today, and why wouldn't they? Children are our future, after all. Or maybe it's just Linda's Blondie recipe.

Yeah, that's probably it.

MOD NOTES

Welcome to our fourth mingle log for newbies and oldbies alike!

This log is meant to cover characters' first five days in Wayward Pines. Characters for this round will appear staggered in the hospital between the 1st and the 3rd, and a CR building event will occur on the 5th, after everyone has had a suitable amount of time to get settled in town. For the most part, only the five memories detailed in your character's application are remembered throughout the duration of this log, although their false Wayward Pines memories may also begin to surface (in those who've opted to utilize this mechanic) as the week wears on. These memories, as noted in the FAQ, feel very real and are accompanied by as much emotion or sentiment as a real memory would be.

PLEASE INCLUDE IN SUBJECT LINE: Character Name, date, location, and Open or Closed, to help keep things organized and make your character easy to find.

If you have any questions regarding this intro log, feel free to ask them on the FAQ or the relevant plurk.

[ ...unexpected, but he mostly turns to make sure no children or young ladies are present, standing guard until he can hear a few fastenings snap into place. Then he's turning back to give Damon a smile. ]

Rough morning?
unforgivably: (well... what can i say)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-03 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He hears footsteps, breathing. A heart beat. Apparently, this guy is the gatekeeper to public decency. But, he's busy changing and again, modesty isn't in Damon Salvatore's vocabulary. He turns around when Kal speaks, leans down and picks up the towel he'd dropped, folding it over twice. ]

Not especially. Had a slight case of being locked out. [ In his towel, but he doesn't have to tell you that, right? ] It's not in my nature to apologize for the free show. [ If Kal was wondering. ] Car trouble this morning?

[ He could... briefly help someone. Probably good to stay in one place so Stefan can find him and tell him that he found Bonnie. ]
silver_lined: (pb: tired smile)

[personal profile] silver_lined 2017-05-03 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He shakes his head easily enough. ]

No, not this morning, but apparently a week or so back. Car accident.

[ He spreads his hands as he makes his way in before offering one to shake. ]

So I'm not here on business. I've just got a bit of amnesia from the whole thing so I thought I'd go back around and get to know everyone again, see if I owe anyone work or trouble, that sort of thing. Small towns live and breath on everyone knowing everyone, after all. Can't help but want to get back in the loop.
unforgivably: (huh how about that)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-05 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ He should've guessed. With his brother's call comes newcomers. It does take him a second to vaguely place the face he knows he's never seen before. ] No fires here. [ And that gets him a smile. They must not be close, because other than that a name doesn't actually come to the surface. He's used to knowing everyone. Not just their choice of -- volunteer occupation? ] Though, if you owed anyone a putting out, I think they should change your description to arson-encourager. [ The snark is strong in this one. ] I'm Damon. Salvatore. I own the garage with my brother. When you find where you live, if there's a car there, I'll be happy to take a look. Check out your bells, your whistles. See if everything's up to snuff.

[ It's a tiny hint of subversion. Sure, Kal was in an accident, but were he to be in that accident, why would his car be intact at home. Only Kal would know. Damon kept track of the inconsistencies. Including never seeing this guy before in his life, save for a sudden onslaught of, from across the room memories, mostly. ]

[personal profile] silver_lined 2017-05-05 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't been back quite yet. I figured, I'd spent enough time indoors, better to walk around for a bit.

[ The name gets him a nod and, since some things are beyond memories and straight into gut reactions- ]

And I'd add that it's Kal Kent to keep to good manners, but it seems you already know me. I'll keep your offer in mind when I get home, all the same.
unforgivably: (she's enjoying herself)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-05 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, I know of you. Volunteer firefighter, right? What are they called anyway? Men in yellow? [ Damon tends to joke, but he's curious. He's never paid enough attention. Maybe they're the men in red? Or, are those devil cosplayers. ]
silver_lined: (civs: chilling out)

[personal profile] silver_lined 2017-05-05 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Not really 'volunteer' myself, but most of the boys are. This place is small enough it doesn't really need much of a regular force.

[ The last question gets a scratch of his ear in response. ]

You know, I don't rightly know. Maybe it's one of those things I'll get back in time.
unforgivably: (huh how about that)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-05 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
We do have more floods than fires, here. [ But, Kal wouldn't know that. He has amnesia. And didn't just wake up here today.

Nope. ]

Probably one of your more important pieces of information. Forget pole sliding strategy, just what do we call a firefighter? Everything else okay up there besides your blank space? Long list of ex lovers? Rose garden filled with thorns? [ He'll realize this place is a nightmare dressed as a daydream. ]
silver_lined: (pb: I'm sorry what?)

[personal profile] silver_lined 2017-05-05 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
We don't just deal with fires.

[ But then Damon keeps talking and there's parts of him that he doesn't even know the source of sitting up and taking notice. The man's not treating this as something odd or unfortunate. He's asking questions like it's a matter of course, like you'd ask someone on a college campus what their major is. 'What do you remember?' and why is that an important question. ]

But... it seems I remember the important things.

[ His mother's recipes. His wife's last moments with him. His friend, Bruce... is he here? He'll have to see if he can find him or find out what happened to him. And, of course- ]

Everything seems to be working all right, other than the missing pieces.
unforgivably: (or you could do what i say. easy right?)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-05 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Right. Cats. In trees.

[ It's how Damon does it, sometimes. Kal's lucky he's being this helpful. Helpful's a stretch, though. He is sort of trolling the old guy. Old guy. Funny. ]

And, those missing pieces are found. Eventually. [ God, he's a broken record at this point. ] The walking helps. A lot of our memories are jogged when we're presented with someone right in front of us. Sorry we didn't know one another that well. Oh. You could jog. Socially. [ Are there jogging groups in this town? ]
silver_lined: (pb: are you out your mind?)

[personal profile] silver_lined 2017-05-05 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ There's something about the cats in trees comment that feels deeply familiar and it has nothing to do with being a firefighter. He files it away to examine later. ]

Clearly, that's what I was talking about.

[ Definitely not any of the other rescue and response issues they handle usually. Trolling is a fine art and he can appreciate someone who knows what they're doing with it. ]

You're talking about it like this is something that happens pretty often. Or it is just personal experience?

[ How far does this go? ]
unforgivably: (wait you really think ... really)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-05 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Look, accidents happen. But, here, they happen monthly. Including mine and my brother's. As far as we know we were the first wave of the driving challenged. Though, accidents did vary when it came to what put us in Nurse Ratchett's House of Uselessness.
silver_lined: (civs: at work)

[personal profile] silver_lined 2017-05-05 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He's quiet for a moment before looking at the other man and tipping his chin towards one of the hammers in the shop. It's a silent request and yes, it has to do with all of this. Because Kal had wondered about that himself. And about the thing he's going to show Damon. ]
unforgivably: (do you have a brain in there)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-06 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
[ A glance over. ] Sure. Borrow my hammer.
silver_lined: (pb: are you SHITTING me?)

[personal profile] silver_lined 2017-05-06 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
[ He nods and walks over, picking up and hefting the hammer thoughtfully for a moment before holding up his other hand and wiggling the fingers. He backs up, puts his hand on the ground... and proceeds to slam the hammer down on his own hand with enough force that there's a distinct ring of an impact.

But it's clearly not from his hand. In fact, he holds up his hand to show the utterly unharmed hand and flutters the fingers to show that truly, nothing is injured. Instead, he shows that there's a faint distortion in the hammer where the metal buckled a little. And he presses his lips together before just saying- ]

'Car Accident.'
unforgivably: (you're saying that)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-06 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ His eyes squint and narrow, wondering if what he believes will happen will happen. It must be noted that Damon doesn't flinch when the hammer goes down. He's hammered somebody before, hammered a nail into somebody, and has taken a hammer. And then -- his eyes go wide, mostly because he knows they should. He's never been this brazen with a stranger, but who is he to ask him to keep things like this to himself. ] Quite the discovery. Think you take all your frustration on hammers that can't fight back? [ Again, the minor asshole emerges, but he thinks Kal can take it. ]
silver_lined: (pb: sideways smug)

[personal profile] silver_lined 2017-05-06 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
[ One of the few memories that Kal has is his friendship with Bruce Wayne. Kal can definitely take it. And yes, he's being brazen, but Damon had been pretty brazen before that and he sees very little reason to hide this particular pieces of information. If anything, it might save trouble. ]

Couldn't tell you. Doesn't strike me as my temperament but I don't know enough to say.

[ He holds up the hammer. ]

I hope not. But I'll get you a new one once I swing by the hardware store. The impact was a little harder than I was intending.
unforgivably: (fathoming what's to come)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-06 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
[ He does take the hammer, because being a vampire doesn't do that, and he still feels pain. ] You didn't feel any pain?
silver_lined: (pb: thoughtful)

[personal profile] silver_lined 2017-05-06 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ He shakes his head easily enough. It'd been about the same as if he'd let his hand land on it. ]

Just something I've noticed.
unforgivably: (yes we should do that)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-06 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ Just something he noticed. ] Thing to notice. [ Seriously. ] Could come in handy. Firefighter, and all.
silver_lined: (pb: thoughtful expression)

[personal profile] silver_lined 2017-05-06 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Hard to miss.

[ When you stub your toe and the bed is the one that needs repair. ]

And you're not wrong. I've been wondering if that's part of why I took the job.
unforgivably: (i don't blame you)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-06 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not. [ It's plain. It's a reaction, but this guy Kal Kent, he's a necessary ally. ] Probably not. It's safer to say any abilities you have here were not a part of the first version of you, the version that didn't exist before you woke up in that hospital. [ His eyebrows go up. ] Sorry to say, that, despite remembering seeing you across a crowded room, I never have. It's how things work here. They show up and boom, memories. New, messy memories we need to make sense of. All while not discussing what could be going on. Or, what happened pre-accidenté.
silver_lined: (pb: down)

[personal profile] silver_lined 2017-05-06 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The thing of it is... something like that is tingling at the back of his brain. It's not fully formed, it's not even all that helpful, but it's there, just outside of his reach. He can almost see it, black vines, thorns, but he doesn't know what it means or why it's there or what it could possibly be. It's meaningless and his hand clenches tight in frustration as he nods, seemingly placid. ]

I see.
Edited 2017-05-06 23:11 (UTC)
unforgivably: (you know i will always be here)

[personal profile] unforgivably 2017-05-06 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry to be the one to break it to you, but, take it as a compliment, because I never tear off the bandaid that quickly. [ And he's had some bad test cases. But, hard hands here seems like he can take it. ] Need a minute?
silver_lined: (pb: sideways smug)

[personal profile] silver_lined 2017-05-06 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That makes him shake off the thoughtful expression and offer a bit of a sharper smile in reply. ]

Only returning a bit of what I gave you. Nothing to worry about.

[ Something about that, about this whole discussion, gives him the feeling that he's used to this, used to handling insane things pretty regularly, because he's not panicking. Instead, he's planning. ]

But I appreciate it all the same.
