[Unconsciously, his eyes narrow in a squint as he struggles to pin down the feeling. He's sure he hasn't seen the woman before, but at the same time a nagging contradiction tells he knows what she looks like when she smiles, that he's seen her with her hair twisted up instead of down, watched her hand gliding over a whiteboard copying out a lesson.

All of that mental tug-of-warring would be manageable, something he could sweep under a smile and a nod, if not for her noticing him and what comes after.

Darling. His eyes widen before he can help himself, mouth falling slack. Just when he'd been ready to dismiss the similarities to his mother, who'd called him darling with that purring voice of hers when she was feeling affectionate, she has to go and sound just like her.]


For a second there I thought you might be my mo--

[Only this high schooler he's supposed to be with the fake last name and the fake peaceful life doesn't have a mother and Jack catches himself with a choked look.

That'd been a close one.]


N-no. No, nothing! Sorry. I just have the weirdest feeling we've met before. Weird, right? Haha.

[This calls for some unassuming, awkward laughter. Right, just a mild case of deja vu, not like she'd made him miss Mother so badly that for a split second he hadn't been able to breathe.]
