[Shopping for groceries seemed odd for some reason, as if she'd not done it in quite some time. Her brain blinked over that thought and then pushed it away as some sort of leftover remnant of the accident that she'd just been in. Brain trauma could be such a bitch, apparently.

Still, shopping. It was simple and easy now that she'd had a little money that she'd come across. It felt odd to have money rather than a charge card, but that wasn't something that she needed to worry about now. Instead she just pushed the cart forward slowly, keeping a running total of her purchases and their prices in her head.

The produce section was important, and she twisted up a plastic bag over some green beans with an expert flick of her wrist that seemed more like a move out of a kungfu movie than a simple English teacher. But it was reflex, and it got the job done and she didn't notice before she'd even dropped the bag into the cart. Turning back to grab something else, she found the kid staring at her, and she stared back over the rim of her glasses for a second before she asked the question:
