He glances back at his pack, unsure of what the cat wants because usually, they just want food when they paw at him, but there's none of the fussed meowing accompanying the request so that might not be it.

Finally, he puts his pack down and lets the cat sniff it.

"I can't let you claw it up too much since I don't know where I got it or whether I can get another one. But you can sniff it if you want."
