Dirk understands -- or he's making a show of understanding, anyway, nodding solemnly. It seems rather odd to him. Who, for one, doesn't want it talked about? Why, for that matter, present such a seemingly clear dichotomy and then... what? Place a moratorium on discussing it? It's almost as though they want people to do the opposite. (They? They who?)
There're easier ways of keeping people from doing things. Where that thought comes from, Dirk isn't quite sure, but it troubles him, so he moves on to simply getting the message -- pointedly not saying any more about puzzles.
"Okay is a bit strong. Generally I prefer my conversational partners to be real." Probably? It feels odd making such sweeping, general statements when he remembers so little with any clarity. "It's just that I also think overlooking any insight into my own subconscious would be inadvisable. Everything is connected."
Does he know what that means? No. Well, sort of. Not in any way he can put to words right now, anyway. But it's one of the few things he does remember, so it must be true.
"So! I'm choosing to take that as a compliment, so thank you." Said pointedly: thank you for both the advice and the... compliment. He beams, and extends a hand to shake. "I'm Dirk Gently, by the way."
