Clueless and awkward as he seems, Matt's not an idiot. He knows the prickling sense of warning as it creeps up the fine hair on his neck. He knows enough to heed it and slowly stand up and step backwards. Once, twice, probably not as much as he should, but it's distance.

"I said I was sorry," His tone is a little defensive, a little prickly, but not aggressive. Honestly, he resents the embarrassment of being called out more than anything.

Ruffled as he is, he has the sense of mind to swallow his pride. A little. Enough to hold his hand out to the person this time, offering something close to an introduction.
