Clary watched him as the silence between them stretched from seconds to minutes. She felt the shadows around him darken though she couldn't identify why or the slight change in his expression. It looked unfamiliar, like he was someone else. Her lips tugged into a frown as he focused back on Clary, the room and the cats that continued to paw impatiently at him. They seemed to have noticed the change too though she shrugged it off in the way that cats are known to do.

She didn't know where he had gone too but it felt as if it'd been a very far away place. A place that she couldn't reach.

"Are you okay?" Talking about money felt significantly less important. "Just then. What happened?" It hadn't been her imagination. She knew that something was happening but she didn't know what it was.
